To some folk, being a barista in Melbourne is more important than being a doctor, and locals choose who fixes them their morning cup of joe very strategically. Thus, when an establishment has a loyal following, you know it’s going to be good. Saporito Cafe Bar & Grill has garnered a loyal following of black gold aficionados for its fantastic coffee blend, but you’d be remiss to not stay and sample some of the tasty food on offer for breakfast or lunch. Also open for dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, this Kavanaugh Street cafe is a must-visit destination for Italian inspired cuisine in the very heart of Southbank.
At one of the most sought after locations in Melbourne, Saporito Cafe Bar & Grill is walking distance from the majority of Melbourne’s entertainment attractions and is the perfect spot to take a break from it all and relax over quality Italian-inspired food and coffee. We recommend heading here for the breakfast bruschetta filled with fresh avocado, sauteed mushrooms and perfectly poached eggs, or perhaps a little later in the day to treat yourself with the organic superfood salad that will leave you feeling refreshed, keen and ready to explore the rest of Southbank.
Reserving a table for dinner on Thursday and Friday nights will give you the chance to indulge in Saporito’s mouthwatering dukkah crusted lamb cutlets or one of their traditional stone cooked gourmet pizzas. Not just that, during the summer Saporito is close enough to the beautiful Botanic Gardens to be able to squeeze in a pre or post-dinner walk. Saporito takes pride in delivering high quality and delicious Italian-style food that will have you salivating. Situated on Kavanaugh Street, Saporito Cafe Bar & Grill will leave you understanding why Melbourne is the food capital of Australia and why this Southbank gem has got locals loving it.
Fabulous find, close to the theatres for a pre-show lunch. Tucked away, so it would be easy to miss or disregard, but very happy we checked it out - and such a quick easy walk back to the MTC after lunch. It was very quiet while we were there (though our booking wasn't until 2.15pm), but there was a constant stream of people getting take-out showed Saporito's popularity with the locals. Our food was really yummy and the service was good, with friendly attentive staff. Only slight let-down was the coffee - not bad, but could have been better.
Wait staff were attentive and friendly. Menu read better than food presented. I just ordered poached eggs on seeded toast with butter and vegemite. Was given poached eggs on sour dough toast. Had to ask for the butter and vegemite. No wet chai only powdered. Will not be back.
We really enjoyed this cafe which is situated next to Quest Southbank. The food is great and the servings quite large. Service was very good
