Sure, it’s a cafe in name and the relaxed vibe of this Claremont favourite certainly suits lounging with a coffee for the afternoon; but the food here on St Quentin Avenue better befits an elegant restaurant. Slow-cooked Amelia Park lamb shank, twice-cooked duck and a premium ribeye steak with mushroom and truffle sauce are some of the stars of Tamarind Cafe’s selection of impressive mains, but there are plenty of other hints on their menu as to why some head to Claremont from all over Perth simply to eat here: we’re talking baked eggs with Persian bread or smashed avocado with heirloom tomatoes for breakfast, an irresistible pulled beef sandwich with apple slaw and chipotle dressing for lunch, and a range of exceptional Asian dishes including an authentic nasi goreng and traditional beef rendang.
