The Duke’s deed and title are well-deserved.This classic Aussie pub has stood on the corner of Barrack and Macquarie Street in central Hobart since 1846, and has managed to retain its old school charm to this day, even though it’s now a bar and restaurant with modern trappings enough to make it a popular CBD destination for fine pub food and drink. The Duke’s lunch and dinner menus are full of solid proclamations on state of the art eating, from burgers and pizzas to some stelar modern Australian mains. With live music on the schedule and a great space for hosting private functions, The Duke is the holistic Hobart pub you’ve been looking for. For somewhere to have a family get-together the Duke was ideal. The service, even with new staff learning the systems, food and beverages are brilliant. The new licencee’s deserve every encouragement for a great night out.
My husband and I enjoyed the food very much (the spreads, firewood pizza, and vegan pannacotta). We also had a great time tasting a variety of local whiskeys and talking with the staff. We highly recommend The Duke!
Damn fine food. If I do say so my damn self. Good drinks. Very accommodating. Great service. Great atmosphere. Fancy without a hint of pretension. Perfection.
