The Governor Hotel in Macquarie Park is one of the most exciting dining destinations in this part of Sydney. A relaxed yet stylish bar and bistro, the menu is designed by the creative Luke Lashford and features unique takes on Australian classics, while the bar is run by Andrew Ratcliff from Eau de Vie. So yes, your cocktails and food will be exceptional. The space itself is home to a main bar and dining room boasting exposed brick and timber detailing, as well as a garden terrace perfect for having a few drinks in the sunshine. Light, bright and vibrant, The Governor Hotel Sydney on Waterloo Road is a favourite of ours for good reason and most definitely deserves a reservation.
Great atmosphere. Good value daily specials. Stayed a long time even though we were the only people there. Staff didn’t pressure us to leave.
Great atmosphere on the roof top bar. The only disappointing part of the evening was the food - overpriced, small, tasteless portion of lamb koftas (more like 3 sausages, 3 pieces of flatbread served with a smudge of yoghurt). Good place for a drink and chat, but skip the food.
Ordered the salmon. It was tiny, overcooked and way overpriced at $38. My mates ordered a chicken burger, there was a deal on that wasn't even advertised so they only paid $15 and got a free beer. Safe to say in comparison I felt pretty ripped off.
So, what’s the story with The Governor Hotel menu then? Well, chef Luke Lashford has created one of our favourite Australian-style pub menus in Sydney brimming with creative takes on dishes you’ll love. We love starting with salt and pepper squid with chilli salt and aioli; deconstructed chicken tacos and the buttermilk fried chicken – delicious no? Then, if you’re in for more of a drinks and chill affair, The Governor Hotel in Macquarie Park also boasts lamb shoulder; oven roasted king salmon and a tomahawk steak to share that can be matched with sides of your choice.
The Australian mains at The Governor Hotel take the form of the classic chicken schnitzel or parma, but served with kale slaw and fries for a tasty twist. We also love the slow-braised Wagyu ragu with pappardelle and buffalo mozzarella and the fully loaded burgers and pizzas loaded with all manner of delish toppings. Now, all this will need to be washed down with something. So why not order the signature cocktail, The Governor, with spiced rum, sugar and Angostura bitters, blazed cinnamon stick and orange zest? Alternatively, why not go for one of the othermany carefully curated cocktails, beers or wine? It’s well worth it, trust us. You’ll find The Governor Hotel in Macquarie Park on Waterloo Road, only a stone’s throw from the Sydney Macquarie Uni. Book now!
