About The Wolf

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of dining and drinking at Sydney’s Barrafina Tapas Bar or Contrabando, you know you’re in for a treat if you get yourself a table at The Wolf, a bright and breezy wine bar in the CBD where old and new world wines selected by sommelier Gloria Grecco rub shoulders with chef Peter Varvaressos’ inspired European cuisine. In sway to the seasons, The Wolf’s wine selection rotates through various global varietals, rewarding repeat custom with novel vintages that pair perfectly with the wine bar’s refined, pared back lunch, dinner and fixed-price group dining menus. And The Wolf’s Bligh Street address puts on a mouthwatering breakfast spread too!

More about The Wolf, Sydney CBD

While The Wolf is a sought-after spot for casual wine bar drinks and dining come liquid lunchtime or long and lazy evenings, those local to its Bligh Street premises in Sydney’s CBD have come to treat it as a superb spot for breakfast, with chef Peter Varvaressos’ penchant for vibrant, stripped-back European cuisine translating perfectly into dishes that seem divinely designed to satisfy Aussie early birds’ appetites. Grab a breakfast salad, indulgent eggs, simple smashed avo on toast blended with lime and coriander, goats cheese and harissa and more, or go for dough with treats on toast like the old school fried eggs, bacon and barbecue sauce or fancy with fried eggs, bacon, tomato and chilli jam with French cheese and greens.

For lunch and dinner, The Wolf puts on a powerhouse display of reinvented modern European cuisine. It’s also time for this Sydney CBD restaurant and wine bar to unlock the cellar and spirits selection, making room for aperitifs, craft and imported beer, Grecco’s sensitive selection of bubbles and old and new world wines. It’s not uncommon to find groups kicking back here to share a bottle over smaller dishes like Yamba prawn mousse-stuffed zucchini flowers, but it’s more substantial dishes like the yellowfin tuna ceviche with avocado and tomatillo, Sicilian-style skirt steak with grilled asparagus and salsa verde, and the Bangalow pork belly with Hervey Bay scallops and roast carrot puree that have made a lasting impression on Sydney’s casual fine dining scene.

Nice selection of wines with great food and happy hour specials that are good value. Great after-work option for city workers. The balcony is a good spot if you are just after drinks.

A quaint venue in the heart of the cbd. Amazing food (the share platters were fabulous! If they only had a bit of dessert to go with the set menu), fantastic selection of wine (I'm a huge fan of old world Italian reds). The only thing I didn't enjoy, for such a small venue, it was a bit too cramped. As a hospitality worker myself (for a high end hotel) I thought the staff could have done a bit more to deal with the excessively large loud group next to us. It was obvious one of the ladies had way to much to drink already. It kind of brought the atmosphere rating down. Other than that. Great night :)

The Wolf consistently provides a venue with a great atmosphere, friendly efficient service and excellent food. I always enjoy the experience and believe it is very good value right in the heart of Sydney. Also, forgot to mention the wine list. Outstanding and a solid variety of bottled and draft beer.

I've been to The Wolf for work lunches and with smaller groups as well. The food is always delicious, and the service great too although when busy it can take a long time for food to come out. Try the set menu if you're really hungry!

The Wolf was great for our group as it catered for all drinking types. $10 Cocktails during Happy Hour on Wednesdays was well received. The bar food was great and reasonably priced. Looking forward to trying Taco Tuesday!

The Wolf has an excellent atmosphere for a central city location, the food is excellent, and the girls do a great job - great service ! Highly recommended for a drink, a meal, or a coffee !

We used a 'Groupon'. Food offered on the 7 course fixed menu is interesting, promptly served and nicely presented. 25% discount on drinks for Groupon users is terrific. Wait staff are excellent. Recommend the Earthworks Shiraz. Like a lot of places in the CBD everything is hard surfaces with lots of echo so quiet conversation is impossible. Can't recommend as a place for a nervous proposal of marriage however a great place for celebration of a successful proposal made elsewhere.
