Just as you can follow your nose from Bangkok’s bustling Hua Lamphong train station to the steamy stalls and carts waiting along Rama IV Road, so it is in central Sydney. At least Uber Thai’s Surry Hills outlet makes it feel like it, sort of. A very suave modern eatery specialising in Thai street food, Uber Thai is found on Elizabeth Street right by Sydney’s Central station. Rock up between CBD business meetings for some quick, crispy pork belly pad prik king stir fried rice and classic pad Thai noodles, or settle in after dusk falls for a more leisurely meal of scallops and soft shell crab salad to start, crispy barramundi or duck and banana flower salad as the main event, with warm coconut balls in coconut milk with sorbet to round it off. It’s BYO, too, so grab a group and a few bottles of wine for a classy but casual Australian-Thai street food experience in Surry Hills.

Small restaurant, but very nice food and good service at a good price. We had the lamb cutlets which were really tasty, then the crab fried rice. (Yum)
