Family-run and always ready with a warm welcome, from 8am to 10pm Tuesday through to Sunday, Zein’s Authentic is a cafe-restaurant specialising in sun-kissed Lebanese cuisine. Located down Heidelberg’s bustling Burgundy Street, Zein’s is the kind of breakfast-lunch-and-dinner outfit that Melbourne needs more of, especially given the fact that while you can get yourself a fantastic cup of coffee anytime of day, the food menu is bursting with modern twists on traditional favourites. This is all down to owner and chef Rober Elzein’s efforts to update Lebanese cuisine and share his innovations with the dining public. Well-known Middle Eastern breakfast dishes like shakshuka are here prepared with authentic Assala cheese, while the al bosha places a melange of pan-fried lamb mince, hummus, olive oil and toasted pine nuts on top of a spring-fresh watercress salad. Let’s call it nouvelle cuisine du Liban.
