Great food with lots of variety and very friendly service. The atmosphere is good however music is a little loud so difficult for hearing conversations across table.
Great food and the variety means there's something for everyone. It has a vibey atmosphere, the wait staff are the best and the view is amazing.
For starters had the italian meatballs which had a very nice balance of flavours, highly recommend the duck rissotto for main course it was delicious. expresso martini was really good, friendly, professional staff
We LOVED the Blue Train. It's a friendly, funky space with delicious food. Kids are welcome and we would definitely go back. All the plates we tried were really really yummo!
Thank you so much to our amazing waiter, I'm sorry I don't know your name but you could see my child was struggling last night, she was crying, overtired and struggling with dinner, it was her bday and you were so patient and non judgmental with her... We appreciated this so much as you cant tell to look at her but she is Autistic and struggles with social situations.. I wish I knew your name so we could thank you! Dinner was amazing and service was even better! Thanks you for salvaging her bday and making us feel at ease.. Blue train is extremely family friendly and can't recommend highly enough! Many thanks!!!
Last night we enjoyed a delicious meal at Bluetrain. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. Bluetrain is a very good option for a pre theatre meal in the south bank area.
Good experience overall but to be fussy, here are some comments. Good atmosphere, albeit on average, with noise level, a bit difficult to have conversations. Coffee was acceptable but not memorable. Fish (barramundi) dish was good in terms of presentation but taste wasn't a feature. Kifler potatoes were a touch on the hard side. Food prices are good and reasonable. Regular water re-fills without having to ask are good. Despite this, I still like the restaurant.
Wednesday dinner for two people. Entrees, mains and drinks enjoyed. I had dumplings as entree and a wood-fired pizza as main and both were absolutely delicious. My friend had the vegetarian fritters to start and risotto as a main and he enjoyed both and the kitchen were accommodating with his dietary requests. I was surprised at how big the venue was… an enjoyable dinner experience :)
We had booked a group of 28 and was told that we'll need to be at two tables next to each other, which was fine but it ended being 3 tables so it did dampen the social interaction quite a bit for me. Other than that the food was tasty, well presented and of good quality. Service was efficient despite being a busy night for them.
Everything was perfect. We were a table of ten with three of us having our birthday on the night. Service was great. Food too. Everyone was happy. The only thing I would love to change is the noise level...but even that wasn't too bad compared to many other places. Thanks for a great night
I had a lovely lunch at Blue Train last weekend. My pasta dish was delicious and glass of White Sheep Sauvignon Blanc was enjoyable which l will definitely order again. The customer service was quick and professional. Always a great place to visit for a bite to each when you are on your way to the NGV and the Melbourne Art Centre.
You're paying for quality rather than quantity - the servings are not huge but are delicious! We recommend the lamb backstrap but suggest you give the sautéed greens a miss. The prawn dumplings are great if you can tolerate chilli, and the pasta ragout is filling. Food came out fairly quickly so it's a solid choice for pre-show dining.
Good food, friendly service in a great location. Background music was a little loud for easy conversation within a group of 8 on a big table, but otherwise ..excellent. 10/10 to the staff...attentive & friendly ...but seemed to be a little under pressure as the place filled with customers.
Our experience was good. We booked for 7 adults, a high chair and place for a pram, however when we arrived our group had changed to 5, so that was accommodated quickly. There was no high chair or place for a pram tho. All in all a good experience.
Great levels of service and food was amazing. Much quieter on the outside balcony so that you can talk easier with friends. Waiter was great at leaving us until we called him so that we could catch up with friends.
Menu heavily advertised as gluten free. After arriving we found out the gluten free options weren't suitable for people with celiac. Disclaimers such as "may contain traces of gluten" weren't anywhere on the menu and this would've made a huge difference. If we had seen this disclaimer on the online menu, we wouldn't have booked. I know they're tapping into this 'low gluten/gluten free' trend however they're misleading people with serious gluten allergies such as celiac. Staff mentioned customers have made numerous complaints about this. Sauce ingredients were pre-packaged store bought, not made from scratch in-house, not really good enough for the prices they were charging. Staff did their best given the circumstances. Unfortunately won't be going back.
A good variety on the menu, from a small snack to a substantial meal; and all beautifully cooked and presented at reasonable prices. Attentive staff (without being constantly at your elbow) and nice timing between drinks and courses
Good food - there will be something for everybody. Busy restaurant. Can be difficult to attract the attention of the wait staff - they need to be trained to scan the tables around them as they walk past to see whether diners may want something.
Great service...we were a group of 12 ladies and the young man was lovely. He was also contending with a group of about 30 for a 50th and little kids running everywhere. Great food and location too.
Great atmosphere! Delicious food! Service was good, the waitresses seemed in a rush but were pleasant enough. We ordered a platter and even though the food was very tasty we did not get everything that was described on the menu. Good value, great selection of food and drinks. Would recommend to a friend.
Great food and service - and a gorgeous sunny day to top it off perfectly. Been a fan of Blue Train for many years and look forward to another visit when I'm next in Melbourne.
Great staff, very attentive and helpful. Food was really yummy and reasonably priced. We had a large group and had to be in and out in just over an hour - nothing was a problem for them.Would definitely recommend Blue Train
Good food, good prices and timely service given the size of our dining party. Would certainly book again for a similar event. Also were able to accommodate the additional members of our party who weren't on the original booking
The staff were very polite and professional. They turned off the music in our corner for us so we could hear one another speak, which was really appreciated. Our in line booking had not been recorded by the staff so a table had to be prepared for us.
casual but sophisticated, service was prompt and all food arrived together. waiters were professional and at the same time easy to talk too. Nice place to catch up with friends and family.
Great vibe. Friendly service. Food is good, though perhaps not amazing, and maybe a little expensive for what it is. Had the seafood platter. It was definitely tasty, and plenty of stuff, just... Pretty good, not quite excellent...
The staff at Blue Train were very helpful and friendly, which made for a great evening. Food was very good, service was prompt amd the location is ideal for guests travelling from different areas of Melbourne.
lovely atmosphere and food. we were a group of 10 and well looked after by the staff. thank you for a wonderful evening - we hope to be back soon.
Fantastic! We had a wonderful night, service was great, atmosphere friendly and food was beautiful. Top score for blue train we will definitely return. Thanks to all the staff
Love the food and atmosphere of this place! everyone enjoyed their meal as it was very fresh and the drinks were good as well. Great view of the river.
We came as a group. The meals were delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We were impressed with the prompt service. A great experience all around.
Table service was fast and friendly, food (veal, meatballs, calamari and pizza) took about 45 mins. (Too long for kids to wait) Veal dish was really really salty but the salad(capsicum) it came with was really tasty. I don't think you really need a big half cooked lemon taking up the plate. The pizza was great. Limited gf options if you are with children. Staff chased up our meal and were friendly and prompt. Would not return due to limited gf options for kids. Location is great.
The food and service was excellent. Highly recommend for a dinner with friends as they have a variety of options on the menu to suit every budget or taste.
Staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. Two for one cocktails on Friday was also a nice surprise! We arrived earlier than our booking, but staff accommodated us without trouble.
Staff were efficient and friendly on arrival for our group and seated us in a spacious area. Great selection on the menu. Meals and drinks came out quickly.
Excellent views, food and service. Good venue for food before a show as it came out fast. Suited all members of the family with the variety on offer.
Excellent food and service . I really enjoyed barramundi especially coriander sauce. Ambience was awesome especially the green bottles lantern. The decor and staff was excellent too
Great dining experience for all ages. Kids were catered for really well and the wine list was perfect for the grown ups ;-). Will go back again with or with out kids!
Great location and service. Staff were attentive and helpful. Drinks were always brought promptly to the table and the food was delicious. Will defo be back
We had a large table and had a time limit. So we were very happy with the service and food. The cocktails were good too. Good value at 2 for 1
Good place to go with kids as noisey and relaxed with a children's menu. Service was not as fast as I rembered the last time I was here but was a busy night over the Grand Prix weekend
Food was amazing The wait staff were friendly and everything ran really efficiently. Great location and really good atmosphere. I will definitely go there again.
Friendly staff and yummy food. Easy to book. Nice table for a large group. Food choice was good for a large group including kids menu
We were a party of 9. All main courses were great and the range of dishes on the menu was really good. Found the desserts pretty small for the price paid. Save for that, a good experience.
Blue Train has good atmosphere, fast and efficient service plus an extensive menu to cover most tastes. Prices are pretty standard and the quality of food is very good.
Food was great, atmosphere also great. Service pretty good, unfortunately we were there over a shift change and got a bit forgotten on the hand over, otherwise all good
Top service and the food was great. Location looking out over the Yarra River and to the City skyline. Highly recommended and has a casual feel about the restaurant.
Friendly Service, the staff were all smiling, helpful and were patient. The food is simple and tasty. The Atmosphere is relaxed with good views of the Yarra and surrounds
Nice restaurant and tasty food; although very hot when the sun was shining on the windows, and a bit expensive... The staff did not rush us out though, which was good, and booking was very easy...
Food was delicious. Service good. Staff very patient with our large group. We had an excellent view out over the city which was great for our international friends.
