As a genuinely specialist Indian restaurant in the northern Adelaide suburb of Prospect, Cafe Chennai is heaven-sent for those looking for specifically South Indian delicacies, with a firm focus on dishes from the state of Tamil Nadu. Boasting a menu rich with seafood, South Indian root vegetables and coconut-infused sauces, Cafe Chennai is a paradisiacal restaurant along the Main North Road where sunkissed cuisine is the norm. There’s good news for non-meat-eaters, too, with Cafe Chennai concentrating just as much on vegetarian and vegan dishes. Book now for casual dining, but don’t forget to check out the weekend buffet specials.
Great food and good service. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere, it was quiet and comfortable with Indian music playing in the background. The serving sizes were generous and price affordable.
Excellent food and friendly staff. Always enjoy our meals there. Recommend the butter chicken and the mutton curry. Mango lasi is also good as well.
Thank you for the great evening and food :-) we liked the food and the place. The staff was nice and friendly, we will come again
South Indian delicacies like dosa, uttapam, rasam, sambhar and vada are mainstays on Cafe Chennai’s extensive menu and are likely to be well-known to Adelaide’s Indian cuisine fiends. But if you haven’t yet had the pleasure of enjoying specifically South Indian (and even more specifically Tamil Nadu) cuisine, this restaurant along the Prospect stretch of Main North Road is sure to function as a capable guide through this tropical and palm-fringed culinary domain. Book a spot for Cafe Chennai’s weekend buffet (all you can eat for an incredible price), open from 11am until 4pm, and take your pick from a wide range of regional specialties.
Cafe Chennai’s a la carte menu is also great value and formidable in scope. Traditional dosai are always a popular choice here, with a huge range of fillings covering vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Other South Indian choices that Adelaide’s foodies will want to sink their teeth into include vadai (doughnut-like fritters), uttapam (similar to dosai but a thicker pancake with the ingredients baked into the batter), and the South Indian breakfast favourite of idli, a savoury cake. If you manage to exhaust the possibilities at this Prospect-based gem, Cafe Chennai offers some Indo-Chinese dishes to keep your curiosity satisfied!
