Beautiful view and great food. Kookaburra looking in and waiting for the chef to bring out food was a nice touch

Had a wonderful night. Delicious food, attentive, friendly service, with stunning views. Am grateful for the concern shown to me when I accidentally tripped over the step next to our table when we were about to leave the restaurant and landed heavily across on the table opposite. Many thanks to all the staff who rushed to help and check that I was ok. Just a small suggestion that the bottom step should be angled, rather than straight and that there should be a hand rail on the stairs to make them more obvious. It is a bit tricky to negotiate this from the table next to the stairs, especially when you have some mobility issues. Otherwise we had a great time again.

Simply one of the best dining experiences along the Great Ocean Road. If you're a lover of seafood and fine food, then this establishment is a must for you. The staff are simply outstanding, never forget a face and make you feel completely relaxed as you soak up the equisite view and calm bush surroundings. Thank you, Chris's Restaurant.

Hugely enjoyed our evening at Chris's. We booked weeks in advance, and were led to the best table in the space - but all the others looked really good too. Great waiter in Ian, who introduced himself by offering to take a portrait of us at table and then guided us to superb choices of wine and dessert. We began with a simple entree of tarama dip and pitta bread to share. Very generous serving and the dip was complex and salted just right. Mains were the fish of the day - baked (IIRC) snapper - and chilli garlic prawns. The main ingredients were fresh and delicious and the flavours were good, but my companion and I felt that the kitchen was playing it very safe here - we would have liked more piquancy in the accompaniments for the fish and certainly a lot more chilli with the sauce for the prawns. Unexpectedly for a restaurant at this price level, both servings were very generous - we could easily have shared a single main and will likely do so when we return (our waiter advised that the kitchen would be delighted to serve us this way). We ordered a side of chips, which was completely unnecessary. The highlight from the kitchen was the dessert - advertised I think as a chocolate ensemble. It arrived with a multi-layered chocolate and brownie confection that was very rich, a scoop of cassis flavoured purple sorbet that was very sour, and a spoonful of heavy cream. The chocolate was magnificent, the sorbet forever surprising and refreshing, and the cream a delightful centering element for our palates. We worked our way bite by bite around the trio and again there was plenty for us to share. For wine we chose an excellent dry riesling from Bests at about $56 for the bottle - a hefty markup over what you'd pay in a bottle shop but the point is that the wine had been very well chosen and every mouthful enhanced the dishes we had ordered. The bill came to $192, and while the dining was excellent you can eat a little better for that sort of sum in Melbourne if you choose wisely. That's not the point though. Nowhere in Melbourne, no matter how much you pay, will you sit in an airy, multi-level room in what feels like mountain treetops, looking out through floor-to-ceiling glass across a forest canopy to the coastline of the Great Ocean Road, the ocean, and the far horizon. With a bonus: the acoustics and well spaced tables allow you to pursue in public a very private conversation, with little risk of being overheard. Add the excellent service - for example, the time allowed us from the serving of our entree to the serving of our mains was perfect - and you have the ingredients for a very memorable evening. Ours certainly was, and we'll be back.

If you are not staying in accommodation or ordering a full bottle of wine you’ll feel left out of attention. 20 year customer and standards have drifted as prices increased. Same menu. However, it is probably the best choice from surrounding cafes and restaurants.
