Down The Hatch, folks. Down The Hatch. The food and drink at this bar restaurant is so on point that as soon as you’ve put it down the hatch you’ll be wanting more, then more, then more. And that’s quite ok, given the focus of the menu at this Joondalup gem is tapas done with a twist. That’s right, diners come from all over Perth to sample little plates of the best British and Australian flavours out there, plates that have also taken in subtle influences from the rest of Europe, too. On Central Walk – not far from Joondalup Station and Central Park – Down The Hatch is perfectly placed for some damn good plate picking.

Onto the menus and as we’ve said, food and drinks are of equal importance at Perth’s Down The Hatch. The beautiful thing about tapas is that you make the rules, hence you can pair coconut prawns with bacon and spring onion croquettes, or a mini fillet of beef and potato salad compression with some sticky chilli pork belly and chard pineapple. Should you fancy a bigger fill, however, then opt for a prime meat from the grill or a fresh bit of seafood, washed Down The Hatch with a fine glass of wine from the lengthy list. Fantastic and gorgeous hostess, she intuitively knew to provide space and also assistance at right time...food was great coupled with relaxing atmosphere. All in all would highly recommend.

We had a great time. The portions are huge and the service was excellent. Even though the bar area was nicely busy the restaurant acoustics were perfect.
