More about the restaurant: El & Dora
El & Dora’s headlining star is head chef and owner Sushil Mohanta. Cutting his teeth at the five-star Oberoi hotel in New Delhi, Mohanta moved around the world to train under leading French and German chefs – and head up the kitchens – at restaurants such as the Sydney Hilton, the Southern Cross Hotel and Rydges Group venues, the Kuwait Hilton, the Ramses and Nile Hiltons in Egypt, the Gulf Hotel and Intercontinental in Bahrain, the Maurya Sheraton and Sea Rock back in India. It’s intriguing, then, that Mohanta has planted his feet firmly in the Brisbane fine dining scene with an Italian restaurant up in Ascot. Needless to say his Alexandra Road premises are effortlessly chic, and the food sublime. Specials like oven-baked wild barramundi, the slow-oven-cooked pork belly with a nam jim sauce, and Moroccan lamb with cous cous bracket an a la carte menu that speaks Italian and Mediterranean cuisine fluently, but with more than a little global flair to keep your meal truly unique.
