About Farina 00
Farina 00 is the home of woodfired pizza in Melbourne’s Northcote. Located on St Georges Road, just a short walk from Batman Park, Farina 00 takes its name, we suspect, from the 00 flour that traditional Roman pizzas demand. While this restaurant is known as the neighbourhood’s best Italian pizzeria, there’s more than just the classic pies being fired up in the kitchen. A good range of authentic antipasti and main courses, desserts, a non-condescending kids’ menu (little palates can be just as gourmet!), and oven-fresh foccacia are also available.

It’s difficult, but we’re going to leave Farina 00’s famous pizzas to one side for now. The consolation prize is that we get to hover over this Northcote neighbourhood Italian restaurant’s menu in other delicious ways. Entrees here include pungent arancini made with black truffle, porcini and parmesan, and a fantastic antipasto platter stacked with cured meats, Italian cheeses, olives and marinated vegetables. A wonderfully down-to-earth but humbly luxuriant selection of authentic and inventive Italian main courses underlines the notion that Farina 00 is one of the best Italian trattoria-style restaurants in Melbourne, though it’s endearingly quiet about it. Spinach and ricotta ravioli come served with burnt butter and sage, while the crispy pork belly is paired with an apple and balsamic reduction, while the gnocchi gorgonzola offers homemade gnocchi with a genius pairing of the strong Italian cheese and roasted walnuts.
What you’ve probably been waiting for is a rundown on what Farina 00 is perhaps most well-known for, both in its home turf of St Georges Road in Northcote and by Melbourne pizza fanatics on the look out for the city’s best Italian discs. Farina 00 uses a traditional stone, wood-fired pizza oven of the sort mandated by the True Roman Pizza Association (no kidding) to turn out a menu stacked with delicious pizza pies. Classics ranging from the humble margherita and marinara to more elaborate Italian classics like the capricciosa meet modern (and to some blasphemous) variations like the Mexicana and the Aussie favourite pizza supreme. Ratcheting up the opulence, Farina 00 also do a long line in gourmet pizzas, with the Farina 00 Special heavy with ingredients like mozzarella, Atlantic salmon, tiger prawns, citrus fennel, and garden peas. Farina 00’s cosy restaurant, warmed and perfumed by the pizza oven, is the perfect place for a romantic rendezvous or a get together with friends. Book now!
Great food value for money friendly service close to home prices are reasonable and the pasta was so good we will definitely return thankyou again for your hard work
First time visitors and had a great night out and experience. Food was delicious. Pizzas were fantastic. Nice quiet ambience. Will definitely dine there again.
Lovely restaurant it's like being at home sooo friendly food good all be it small serves but just enough. Brother and sister act with support from staff.
The pizzas are fantastic and the other meals are restaurant grade and generous. Best of all, the owners and staff make it a great dining experience. If you have kids, they will love the pizza base tossing show. Lex Brunswick
Unfortunately the head chef was apparently sick on the day we visited the restaurant so they reverted to a basic menu. Many of the coveted dishes which attracted us to the restaurant in the first place were missing from the basic menu. We had a very tasty olive and cheese focaccia for a starter which arrived at our table cooked to perfection with a crisp pastry and the melted cheese was oozing with sliced olives. For mains we chose the calamari dish and the tagliolini pasta. Both dishes had wonderful flavors and were also well presented on the plate. The service was a little slow and somewhat clumsy on the night but I guess the missing chef had them a little under pressure. Overall a good experience but could do with a little improvement.
Farina 00 is a great place to dine any night of the week. The staff are great and atmosphere is warm and inviting. The pizzas are great with lots of fresh toppings and main meals are delicious especially if you like seafood.
We have eaten at Farina 00 on numerous occasions, the staff are very welcoming and engaging whilst the food is consistently fresh and delicious to eat. The BBQ meat lovers pizza is a winner!!!
Farina 00 is a place that understands how to deliver attentive service and produce even better food! Pizza and pasta to rival the best I have ever had.
Nice place, presents well. Simple menu but don't expect a Neopoletan style pizza. These are Roman. The base is smaller and crispy. When you don't get a DOC style pizza, don't complain. The owner is the pizzaiolo and is really friendly and social. I wish them well as I know how hard it is to run a restaraunt. Give them a go!
Great service, Very friendly, yummy food. Prosciutto pizza was divine. Gnocchi ragu was also very yum, and we recommend the flourless chocolate cake. Just a lovely local restaurant.
We enjoyed the whole experience, great food, friendly staff, happy environment, chocolate roses very thoughtful for Valentine's Day and would not hesitate going back for another nice meal, parking not a oroblem
Great pizza, great atmosphere and great service. Will be back for sure. We also had the calamari which was very fresh. Only compaint $9 per bottle for corkage - a bit ott
All food great but especially Beautiful pizza, attentive service, quick meals. Loved the wine, list is well priced as is menu. Not too busy or noisy.
Nice and cosy. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere. Food is amazing and the desserts are so good. Will definitely keep going back there. Yum
Lovely service and always very accomodating. Pizzas are delicious. They have a large table for large groups which is comfortable so there is plenty of room for plate sharing.
Pizza base delicious. Ordered Gourmet Prosciutto & Buffalo mozzarella topping. Very stingy with mozzarella & prosciutto. When there's only two ingredients you should be able to taste them. Especially on a Gourmet & Large pizza.
It was a nice place and friendly staff but overall really overpriced food. 2 adults and 2 kids totalled $130! And the food was incredibly average. - particularly the kids. There are too many good local places to go to bother trying again.
