Surpassing all expectations, this local hotspot is a favourite among meat lovers and Japanophiles alike, offering authentic dishes that please all the senses. Found on Brisbane’s Enoggera Road, only a hop, skip and a jump from Newmarket Station, Golden Wood Teppanyaki invites you to indulge in array of Japanese specialties at the restaurant’s chic premises six days a week, from Tuesday to Sunday.
We had a group of six and there were very mixed feelings about the restaurant. Firstly we had booked for 6.30 but were asked to arrive maybe 10 mins early which we did and then our table was not ready so had to wait? It was my first teppanyaki experience and I felt the throwing of the food was rather aggressive and excessive especially when there was little to no warning when something was coming your way, especially raw eggs going in all directions as the chef was not necessarily a good shot. We felt the other chef we could see operating was interacting with the crowd better and giving more warning. Others in the group who had previously experienced teppanyaki felt it was from far their best they had experienced. The general decor and condition of the restaurant was very average considering the stainless steel deck had exposed screws holding down one corner where we were sitting - a perfect germ trap!! Overall a pretty average experience.
For a unique Japanese dining experience that’s hard to top in Brisbane, Golden Wood Teppanyaki excels in terms of service, ambience and quality. With limited seating and the kitchen situated directly in the middle of the dining area, guests are treated to an intimate experience that leaves a lasting impression.
