Gunyah Hotel in Belmont is one of those pub restaurants that seems unable to do anything wrong at all. With breathtaking views of Lake Macquarie and one of the most tastefully decorated bar and dining areas we know of, good vibes flow in abundance here, and the hungry folks in Belmont can’t get enough. All of that before you’ve even got to the food, which, we must stress, is worthy of all the praise it gets from us as well as everyone else who’s tried it. Head chef Jeff Umbaugh has designed the menu to never lose its focus on fresh, high-quality, delicious and affordable food, by way of Australian pub classics and an indulgent tapas menu.
Lunch and dinner are both available at Gunyah Hotel in Belmont, and if you’re feeling fancy, why not start with oysters? Have them natural with a little douse of lemon or with smoked bacon and a homemade kilpatrick sauce. Following on, the burgers at Gunyah Hotel Belmont should not be missed, particularly the Wagyu beef burger that’s as succulent as they come. Also good is the lamb shank slow-braised in red wine jus served with creamy sweet potato mash and veggies. There’s plenty more to savour, of course, and we find everything tastes that bit better with uninterrupted views of the sea with a cold cocktail in hand.
