Harry’s Bar & Food Room is a restaurant with a dedication to one dish. They make a big deal about the risotto at this Italian joint, making it the centrepiece of their selection. When you can make it as well as they can, it makes perfect sense. From their Young Street address in Moonee Ponds, to the north-east of central Melbourne, they serve up their speciality dish for lunch, dinner and even functions – book a table now to get your fill.
Risotto is an Italian classic, but it is a difficult dish to do well. So when you find a restaurant that makes it their main focus, it is worth sitting up and taking note. At Harry’s Bar & Food Room on Young Street in Moonee Ponds, they make as good a risotto as anywhere in Melbourne, so we recommend jumping the tram from the city centre to the Moonee Ponds Junction/Pascoe Vale Road stop and getting stuck into some of the finest Italian food in the city.
A great risotto is one thing, but to mention only that would do a disservice to the other dishes on offer on Young Street. Harry’s Bar & Food Room have a full menu of Italian favourites, so whether you are in Moonee Ponds for a pizza, a pasta or just something to go with a schooner or two, you’re in luck. They cater for everyone as well, with vegetarian and vegan options prominent, as well as proudly boasting of their ability to make everything gluten-free on request, a rarity in Melbourne.
Service was great and the food was hands down some of the best Italian in Melbourne. The pizza was to die for and the gluten free base was delicious!
I highly recommend Harry's. Food was fantastic, dessert was to die for and service was exceptional. I look forward to returning again very soon with my family!
The risotto as always was absolutely delicious. When you combine that with the lunch special which also comes with a complimentary glass of wine, then it is perfect.
Not only is the food fantastic, but all of the staff are as well. We would recommend to anyone and will definitely return on a regular basis. Great job Maria!
Been wanting to try this place for awhile, it was a relatively quiet night during the week, which was good. The entree Quayle was disappointing as it was overcooked & dry but the real reason for going didn't disappoint. Ordered the duck & mushroom ragu risotto which was excellent. The pistachio panna cotta to finish was very nice also. Prompt, friendly service and the place is bright & cheerful inside after an update. Will definitely be back, with the lunchtime risotto & wine special looking like great value, if you are nearby.
The service was impeccable as was the food. I'm a coeliac and I did not get glutened whatsoever. It can be a scary experience when dining out, I hardly ever do it, but now I have a safe place to eat. A win win for me! Highly recommend this classy eatery.
Both the main courses and desserts were tasty and enjoyed. Wine was also very good. Good choice of gluten free dishes, including desserts. Service was quick and responsive. Enjoyed being in a restaurant where it was possible to have a conversation with other diners over the table without much effort. Much less noise than some other places.
Excellent! Such attentive service for Coeliac customer; the waiter could not have been more helpful. He explained every menu item in detail and provided absolute reassurance and delightful service. He was happy to accommodate every request and the food was delightful! Thank you so much.
Nice and cosy little restaurant. Service and prices were great also. Food really nice however maybe a few more options on the menu. Mostly pizza, pasta and risotto. Needed a little more variety. Overall great experience and highly recommend.
Excellent service and attention to every detail. Meticulously looked after in relation to coeliac diet and fodmaps intolerance. Many thanks to the attentive waiter for his tireless assistance
