Thinking about making a House of Lulu White booking?
The story goes, that sitting atop the South Yarra train station, young schoolboys would applaud the gentlemen leaving the rooms of the Paradise Girls, a house of disrepute. And, while a lot has changed over the years, the fascination with this iconic Melbourne space has remained the same. Nowadays however, this red brick factory has taken the name of the former madame, and it has been transformed into one of Melbourne’s best and brightest foodie spots. Splashed with powder pink paint, neon signs of plump lips and distressed leather banquette seating, House of Lulu White is taking interior design to a whole new level.
But what about the menu? While it's definitely got an Australian twist to it, you won’t find any run of the mill smashed avo or scrambled eggs at the House of Lulu White. Instead, if you’re feeling naughty for brunch, sample the buttermilk chicken and waffles with maple nahm prik and coriander or smoky bacon breakfast ramen with an egg, crispy pork belly, soba noodles and wasabi oil. For later in the day, we can’t get enough of House of Lulu White’s pan-fried gnocchi with smoked salmon tartare, pickled beetroot, lemon and poached egg, or the flat iron steak baguette with roast onion, cavelo nero and whited smoked cheddar. Whether it’s for coffee and brunch or for a night of revelry with endless espresso martini’s, House of Lulu White is one spot that definitely requires a visit. Located on Yarra Street in South Yarra, this is one Melbourne spot where discretion is (not) required.
