Further Information

Firmly established as one of Melbourne’s most trusted Japanese restaurants, Kobe Teppanyaki opened in South Melbourne in 1987 and has since expanded to their stylish digs on Blackburn Road in Doncaster East. Guests get the real experience at Kobe Teppanyaki, where sleek tables encourage communal dining and the theatrical process of teppanyaki dining adds an element of entertainment to an already delicious meal. Of course there are superb Japanese beers, warm or cold sake and wine available, but the star of the show is the food.

Residents or visitors to Doncaster East are lucky to have a true taste of Tokyo in their midst at Kobe Teppanyaki on Blackburn Road. Choose from one of several extensive teppanyaki or a la carte banquet menus and be treated to a show as experienced chefs sizzle meat, seafood and vegetables on hot grills before your eyes and then throw it to you – hopefully avoiding your eyes and landing in your mouth. All novelty aside, the food is simply superb and hard to match in terms of Japanese dining in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, with rich miso, tatsuka age, teriyaki chicken, sakana, scallops, squid, salmon and tender beef all making an appearance on the huge menu.

Excellent food, atmosphere, service, decor and choices. A fantastic evening with my partner and great to enjoy the company of other customers who were also enjoying their night out. All the staff were professional, friendly, accommodating and made for a great experience. We will definitely be back - thankyou Kobe Teppanyaki.

We loved Kobe! They accommodated perfectly for food intolerances and allergies as well as brilliant service and entertainment. The food tasted fresh, and flavoursome and the ambiance was family friendly for those wishing to take their kids. It may cost a little more than a meal at some restaurants however you most definitely get value for money! I plan another trip to Kobe with my kids next time as I tried it out first with a friend.

Food was very good and the menu was extensive. A friend has dietary restrictions and they were very helpful with menu suggestions. BYO was a plus but we were disappointed that it did not cover the bottle of Sake we also bough . I was told it was "BYO wine only" but I always thought Sake was rice based wine. Regardless, it was a lovely meal.

We were there on a Saturday night and although we had to wait about 15 minutes for our table it was well worth it. We had the Tokyo banquet, which was fantastic. The food was amazing, the service was great, we will definately be back!!!

Really great. Our first time here but we will be back. The food was excellent and service quiet and efficient. The decor is relaxing with plenty of room between tables and although it was busy there was not a lot of noise. Delightful..

Food was good and fresh. Was really quiet for a Friday night which was good because it meant that my companion and I could talk pretty freely, don't think it is normally like that. Chef did a good job and cooked the food well. Only suggestion is to cut the prawn in half before serving to make it easier for the eater.

Good fun, our 3 and 6yr olds enjoyed as did hubby and I. Actually felt like too much food - 2 adult set menus and 2 kids menus ... not sure if you can choose not to have 1 of the kids meals, might be worth asking. Would go again.

Quality and taste excellent, great service always feel comfortable. Would have preferred quality chopsticks rather than disposable... We have had teppanyaki many times, chefs always fun. Opted for quiet a la carte dinner this time.
