Italians migrated to Australia from all over, and the repertoire of Italian restaurants in Melbourne represents the diversity of traditions that exists back in the bel paese. La Veneta, as the name would suggest, specialises in the cuisine of Venice, the home region of the father of owner Annette. She chose the female form of the name – La Veneta, as opposed to Veneto – in tribute to the women of the region, and the menu brings the best that the north-eastern city has to offer, as well as a few Italian classics that we all know and love. Northern Italian cuisine is slightly heavier than that of the South, a result of the colder climate, and thus the specialities on offer at La Veneta on Mt Eliza Way include lamb cutlets with potato, chicken breast with basil pesto or their house signature, La Veneta linguine, with olive, thyme, spinach and capsicum. Take the trip out of Melbourne proper to Mount Eliza for an Italian meal to remember at La Veneta – just remember to book ahead!
This was our first time at this restaurant. The meal took 40 minutes to arrive. The crispy fries were warm and not crispy and my seafood pasta consisted of a lot of penne, five mussels and one prawn. We will not be going back.
Amazing vegan food with friendly staff and an excellent wine list. This is a great family dining experience or equally as good for a social night out or a romantic dinner for two.
La Veneta is our favourite restaurant not just in Mount Eliza, but in the Mornington Peninsula. The food, the service and the atmosphere are all top class and for a very reasonable price.
