This place is amazing! Great food and excellent atmosphere. Great service. Our tabel ordered desserts twice! The only thing is that it is super busy on Saturday and they only have 2 hr dining sesisons

Amazing authentic Mexican flavours. Generous portions. Happy vibe and good service. No burritos here, just amazing Mexican food that would not be out of place in Mexico.

We always enjoy their beautiful authentic Mexican cuisine, the staff are very friendly and they all create a festive atmosphere to celebrate a birthday. Prices are reasonable and the food is really good.

Very tasty authentic Mexican food. They have a great range of all your favorite Mexican treats as well as some I had never tried before. Had the platter and it was good albeit a touch small for two - would pair well with an entree.

Great food, music and service. It was a little hard to communicate with staff sometimes as they were all Latin background I presume and the restaurant was loud. But the staff were paitient. Food took some time to come out but we were there in a group of friends and had the whole night to relax and chat. The Sangria was amazing!!

There are many restaurants they purport to be Mexican, but Los Amates is the real thing. Tasty food, good sized serves, and some nice margaritas to wash it down.

Not to happy very slow services cause when I order a drink I want my drink straight away and not wait when it suits the waiter/waitress, also poor with portions of meals for two people to share but the charges was the same NOT HAPPY AND WOULD NOT REFER .Have been to other Mexican restaurant before and yet to experience Value for Money. Nice homely food. Relatively small servings, (we shared the platter) but it was a nice mix (saving us having to choose!) and filling enough. The staff give it an authentic Mexican feel. I liked the Sangria :)

3 of 5 meals were nice. 1 was ok and the other was inedible. Told two different waitresses that the dish was inedible (because it was overcooked, dry and the sauce was disgusting), and both could only say - I'll tell the chef. Would never return.

love this place. The food is amazing, it is really Latin food! Not the australian version like others... Love the vege tacos Asados Napolas and the Flan!

It is a cultural experience! My special request is that the chef put the grilled scallops wrapped in bacon back on the permanent menu, if possible, please!

Food was not as good as it used to be. Also, we ordered a food "package" for the group, it was delivered but missing pieces, I had to ask them to bring them because some people didn't get their piece . Service was slow but the staff was very friendly

Good, honest, flavoursome and well-priced food in a basic and friendly environment. Been to Los Amates a couple of times, years apart, and have enjoyed it both times.

Made my reservation just 20 minutes before we arrived, but no problem. (Some restaurants don't look at their online reservation systems after service starts, so this was good.) Food was great. I had Pozole Rojo from the specials menu which was just the right level of smokey-spicy. My husband enjoyed chicken mole enchiladas. The food here is very homestyle -- different from the "taco bar" or "street food" trend at the moment. This is probably because Los Amates was around long before Mexican became trendy in Melbourne. I did notice they had updated their menu to include some more "fresh mex" kind of options but I didn't try them. Something worth noting is that almost everything on the menu is Gluten Free - so much so that they mark the things that AREN'T rather than the things that ARE. The atmosphere and service are fine but nothing amazing ... come here for the food.

Authentic Mexican, by all means it is! Ambiance is good, although the music could be turned a notch down. People have to increase their tone of voice quite a bit making it a noisy restaurant. Service overall is good but the barman could use more help to speed things up.

Delicious food. Lovely staff. A bit of a wait for food and we were pretty hungry but we didn't mind as the food, drinks were great. Some great cocktails and authentic Mexican which tasted delicious. Fab evening!

We had a hens dinner here the other day, it was fantastic... we ordered the $69 menu with a few things of everything and nachos and quesadilla.. there was so much food and it was all very tasty. The staff made the night though, great customer service. As it was a hens we were a little loud towards the end and doing dares and stuff, they joined in and we had a lot of fun. The decor is really cool also, they have 3 different seating areas all look comfortable and cosy. I love this place and will definitely be going back.

The service and food at Los Amates is always great. Arturo and his staff make you feel welcome and the ambience is relaxed and bohemian. I recommend Los Amates to people that want to enjoy real Mexican food and drinks.

The food was really nice. The only complaint is that no drinks or anything was offered for about 25 minutes. Once it started there were no issues.

Finding good, authentic latin american food can be challenging in Melbourne...especially for someone who thinks the perfect food are roadside tacos in Mexico. Los Amates might not be roadside tacos, but they're the next best thing. I'll be back. cheers!

Very good food, it is real mexican food, very tasty and clean. The Staff is very friendly. It is not a cheap restaurant but one of the best mexicans food in Melbourne

Service was great and food was tasty (personal taste but I didnt like all the raw onion that was over every dish). The spicy margarita was also good!

So much yum. An old favourite with some of the best mole sauce in Melbourne. Margs are refreshing, guac is delicious and the fish tacos are sensational.

This was my second visit & the food was delicious again, my hubby even ate without cutlery (he never does that!). Will Definitely go back again with a group of friends.

Friendly, fabulous service. Busy, authentic and happy place. Vegetarian enchiladas were a bit bland but other meals in group were great. Loved the lime Margaritas!

Probably The best Mexican food outside México. Very friendly service and a good selection of tequilas. I suggest to book a table, the place was full!

Great amosphere. Nachos were delicious! Staff were really friendly and attentive. We were seated in the walkway which wasnt ideal- would ask to be seated somewhere differently next time. We also ordered ceviche which we weren't overly happy with- very small pieces of fish which got lost in the salsa

The food was great but they seated us right out at the back in a separate room. It was freezing and felt isolated from the rest of the restaurant.

My favourite restaurant in Melbourne! I have been coming here for 3 years and everything about Los Amates is amazing - the food is amazing, the staff are amazing and the vibe and atmosphere makes you feel like your in your Anuela's kitchen. It literally doesn't get any better.

Great place for a celebration. The staff were incredible, from the chef, the wait and the bar staff. Some of our guests were unhappy with our initial seating arrangement, we were relocated when another table became available. One of our guests has a food allergy, the chef actually came out to confirm the order and modified it for us. The food was incredibly tasty and the final bill very easy on the pocket. Loved it.
