Good Mexican food! We were a group of four on a Saturday night, the place was reasonably busy and the service was good and attentive. We will definitely return.

The style of the menu changed a bit and I found it a bit hard to read. I was very tired though. Anyway, the food was still very good. The service however, is exceptional. Very friendly staff. And they don't act as if they are being friendly because it's part of their job, they just seem like very nice people. Very natural.

Yummy food and friendly staff. The share plate to start with was more than enough for our group of 5 people and was lovely to try a range of things in a small sample style. Fab music and Mexican things on the walls

Real authentic Mexican food. The back patio is well heated, and being seated there durinng the winter is not an issue. I particularly like the Puntas al Chipotle, which the menu describes as: Charred chunks of beef steak w/ a tomato and chipotle sauce served with rice, beans and 4 corn tortillas. I admit to not fully exploring the menu, as I tend to order the same thing over and over, but my dinner companions have never had a bad word to say. Occasionally, they do special events for Cinco de Mayo and Day of the Dead.

Always excellent, authentic and well priced cuisine. Staff are friendly, owner Arturo is extremely welcoming and most importantly, food is off tap delicious. Don't hesitate to eat here.

The most authentic Mexican food you will ever find in Melbourne. Great atmosphere, great vibes, great service but most importantly Amazing food, I will always return to Los Amates!

I went there for my birthday with a group of friends. The staff were very attentive and assisted with selection of dishes and quantities for the group. Everyone really enjoyed the food and service.

We found the food delicious and the staff were very helpful when trying to decide on menu choices. The frozen Margarita was one of the best I've had.

The staff are fast but also no-nonsense in their service which I liked. The menu selection is great and the food was delicious. I've never been to Mexico but this seemed a lot more authentic than most places and it was all for a good price (especially when in Fitzroy!)

Loved it! Try the spicy margaritas! Service was friendly and prompt, food was delish...expecially the smoky chipotle sauce on the prawns...great atmosphere and cocktails too.

The service was excellent. It was good Mexican food for Australia but would be considered average in California. The ambience was fair. I would recommend the taquitos and guacamole.

The food and drinks were absolutely delicious authentic Mexican cuisine. All the staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The best Mexican food I have had outside Mexico.

Delicious food and great cocktails, everything I could have hoped for. Only complaint was that it was far too easy to over order because everything looked so good!!

Ordered the sharing platter for 2 and frozen mango margarita. Food was really delicious but could do with more alcohol in the margarita.. Overall, a very authentic Mexican experience.

Los Amates Mexican Kitchen cultural environment was very inviting! Although my family does not eat much Mexican food, the variety available made our experience very comfortable. The food was delicious and the restaurant was not to loud. Great place for family dining :)

Excellent food and service. The ceviche was amazing. Chicken mole was extremely tasty. The decor is very authentic. Staff are friendly and efficient. They are always happy to detail what the food comprises of.

A great authentic mexican restaurant. This place does not serve tex mex. Meals are full of flavour! Service with smile. Only the Freshest produce is used. Always a pleasant experience!

We went on a Tuesday night. The service was very slow, 20 mins wait on each drink order. We heard the food was meant to be good, but we all found it average. Also, many of the Tequila's we ordered were out of stock.

Highly recommend sharing plates as we enjoyed these the most! Ceviche, soft shell tacos (chicken and beef cheek are amazing!) and street food. The sangria was a hit too!!! Love this place and regularly eat here as I love the atmosphere, friendly staff, owner will make you feel special and greet guests and of course the food!

Nice place. Mole chicken not all that good. It has a good atmosphere. Make sure to book ahead or you might miss out on a table. The street food share platter is fun.

Delicious fresh flavours and generous portions, staff were attentive but not overly so. Sangria was lovely. Made a booking for 3people and only given the option of two times for the evening however it looked as though we could've come another time if we'd walked in without a booking

Just another Mexican Restaurant.. But not as good as others.. Mamasita, Fonda. House Pinot is the worst wine I have tasted in years. Rocket Fuel. Overrated this place.

Very friendly service and great food. More variety than normal. Spicy lime margarita? Was delicious.. Had to change booking time and was delay in this website transmitting the cancellation so Restaurant rang to confirm we were coming at 8pm not 6.30pm.

Great food and service! Flavours were awesome. Prices reasonable. I would rather go here than to other Mexican restaurants where you can't book and line up to get in.

A casual, unpretentious and relaxed atmosphere with a vibrant decor, friendly staff and a broad menu selection of classic, flavourful and fresh dishes. It's not going to knock your socks off, but it's certainly up there when it comes to Mexican in Melbourne.

Love the food, the owner is very nice too. Though I did feel that a few items were very over-priced and a little more help ordering would have been good.

Waitresses are warm and friendly. Food is delicious and highly recommend Street Platter if you want to try different Mexican dishes. Desert is also a must try.

Food and service are fantastic, it's quite noisy though - hard to hear conversation. Be good to put up some sound baffling materials on the ceiling perhaps. This the only reason I rated 5 instead of 6. I love this restaurant.

The food and margaritas were excellent . Service was good and the ambience was Ok. The chefs and owners are Mexican so it was pretty authentic .

Love this place - great food and great service. The beef cheek tacos are amazing, not to mention the margaritas. And because it was my birthday I received a free tequila shot!
