Lulu’s Cafe Newcastle specialises in Hawaiian poke bowls. Lulu is short for Honolulu, and this charming little addition to Newcastle’s cafe precinct was set up by three good mates looking to bring something fresh and unique to the scene. Poke bowls, for the uninitiated, are big, healthy bowls of raw sashimi fish, vegetables and vibrant salad on a bed of rice. You literally feel like a whole new and revitalised person after eating them. They’re good for lunch or for dinner, but Lulu’s Cafe Newcastle is also open for breakfast for the early risers amongst you. Be sure to head to this Crown Street cafe armed with an advanced reservation. You’ll need one!

Get a table before they're gone
A real gem of a cafe, great for morning teas and lunches.
Since changing the menu, I think the poke bowls have gotten smaller, and are not as good as they used to be. Also, we booked and pre ordered so our food would be ready by the time we arrived, but they hadn't even started being made and we still had to wait. There was no real point to pre ordering to save us time, so I was a little disappointed with the service.
