Maccaroni Osteria Italiana has all the features of a vintage Italian restaurant – and then some. This elegant but casual, family-run eatery on Queens Parade (right at Clifton Hill Interchange) dishes up an amazing spread of beautiful, traditional Italian dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but it also bucks the trend by offering the only full vegan Italian menu in Melbourne. No, we don’t mean one or two vegan options, we mean the full monty, a ‘Vegitalian’ menu – from misto fritto and zuppa di funghi to start off, through a long main menu offering vegan lasagna, polenta with wild mushrooms and truffles, gnocchi with vegan Bolognese sauce and much more, to delicious, decadent homemade desserts and cakes (yes, they have vegan panna cotta). For vegetarians and vegans you simply couldn’t do better for Italian eating around Fitzroy North and Clifton Hill, but even for those unwilling to remove the cheese and eggs from Italian cooking this will be a very memorable meal.
Omg it’s been a while since I’ve been able to have good Italian foods that’s vegan friendly and isn’t bland and there’s like 2 options in the menu! Great atmosphere and tons of options!
This is by far my favourite Italian restaurant, food made with love like my Nonna use to make. I love that there is a vast variety of delicious vegan and gluten free options. I have been 4 times now and each time, the food has been out-of-this-world, FULL of flavour. The atmosphere is very calm, romantic and the staff are extremely accommodating and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Many thanks for having a great tasting vegan selection. The staff have been very friendly and accommodating which always makes the experience pleasurable. Will definitely be back and recommend to people.
