Maedaya is a friendly, casual Japanese izakaya spot in Richmond that serves up food as exquisite as some much pricier Japanese places around Melbourne. In addition to their delicious food, Maedaya offer up a spectacular selection of drinks, including more warm and cold sakes than you could poke a stick at. All the Japanese izakaya classics are done well here, from crunchy edamame beans to succulent sizzled beef, and one of Maedaya’s main points of difference over other eateries along this stretch of Bridge Road – Japanese or otherwise – is their impressive, diverse gluten-free menu, which includes juicy sumiyaki skewers, a multi-mushroom salad with sesame dressing and grilled salmon fillet steak. Maedaya is great for group dining, but in that case it’s essential to reserve a bit ahead of time because it can fill up quickly!
Always enjoy Maedaya, love their ipad ordering experience ...... food comes quickly and one can keep ordering till we are sated. Service is attentive and warm. Hot Green Tea is on the house and you can order this as much as you can drink. We do miss the Sashimi Salmon Salad which was one of our favourites ..... need to book to avoid disapointment.
Fantastic food and good atmosphere. Booking process a little quirky as I got sms messages to confirm as well as phone calls yet the restaurant was only about 50% capacity- perhaps technical glitches... But service is brilliant
Serive was amazing. Loved the whole experience. It was easy to place order and the staff were very attentive. Every dish that we ordered was delicious! Will be back for sure!
great place for Japanese food,Ipad ordering, food was great!!! great Beer selection,if you are into Matcha there are a few desserts and also a Beer will be back very soon
It's always a great experience when I go to Maedaya, that's why it's my favourite local restaurant. If you haven't been, I highly recommend that you go, it's got a huge selection of sake, and caters for those who assume that Japanese food is all raw. Quite the opposite, there is a huge selection of cooked dishes also.
Have always loved coming to Maedaya, as the service and food had always been top notch! It is therefore unfortunate to say that the food was a little disappointing on this particular visit. Some skewers came at room temperature, while others piping hot. The fried sesame chicken was also lacking in its usual flavour. However, the gyoza and tofu were fantastic, as were the drinks and service!
Great food and good value, nice place. We arrived 10 mins early and was asked to leave and come back at our time slot, I thought this was not a good look as we were new customers. I felt like I should have gone somewhere else, I believe they need a seating area where customers may have a drink before they are seated at there allotted time...If they are to be strict with table times??? this was the only thing I can say in negative to the restaurant.
Orders through the Ipad is a good idea. The place is quite busy so book ahead. There are a few dishes that take a while to come out, so order the faster dishes while waiting for the big ones to come out. There are a huge range of alcohol which is nice to try. The sushi dishes are very good and fresh. Just a suggestion, if each dish have a minimum preparation time, then it would be good to know when ordering.
Great food but most of the staff seemed a bit rushed. Had difficulty keeping the content of vegetarian dishes separate from the meat dishes, so our vegetarian wouldn't eat some. Each table is supplied a tablet to make your order on; you can view the items on your order but can't see which ones are still outstanding. Two of our vegetarian dishes did not arrive until we prompted at the end. However, all the food was very tasty and look stunning.
Love the food n great n friendly service, the staff made our 9th monthsaries with a surprised desserts with my partner's initial n mine, thank you Maedaya staff for yr great service,😊😊😊
