Thinking about making a Maximus Wines booking?

The Maximus Wines cellar door experience is available by appointment only, from Friday through to Monday from 11am until 4pm. Usually hosted by the winery’s owners and managers Rowland and Shelley Short, an afternoon at the cellar door promises a guided journey through this eminent McLaren Vale wine producer’s superb vintages, sampling a number of different varietals, matched to gourmet sharing platters, nibbles, and desserts. Popular among those from Adelaide and beyond enjoying a tour of South Australia’s most famous wine-growing region, advance reservations are essential.

Typical wines available from the Maximus Wines cellar door are the 2009 Premium viognier, the 2013 Adelaide Hills pinot gris, the 2011 tempranillo, and the 2012 Premium GSM – all of which have scooped gold or top gold medals, confirming Maximus Wines’ position among McLaren Vale’s top-ranked producers. The food up Foggo Road is just as fantastic. Dine on share platters for two people, loaded with charcuterie, cheeses, local olives, chargrilled Mediterranean vegetables, pickles and chutneys, seasonal fruit, artisanal bread and more. Alternatively, go for the international cheese platter, featuring French brie, English aged cheddar and Italian gorgonzola piccante alongside a range of exotic conserves and lavosh crackers. For a truly divine finish, try some wine-infused chocolates – the tempranillo with native Australian mountain pepperberries reflects the quintessentially South Australian character of this special winery.
