In all honesty, Gepetto’s is the destination for Italian cuisine in the small Adelaide Hills settlement of Hahndorf, famous already for its German-inflected European eateries. Helmed by a duo of Domenics, chef Domenic Martino and owner Domenic Romeo, who both bring a wealth of hospitality experience to bear on the running of this cosy Italian cantina, Gepetto’s at Hahndorf is committed to using a considered mix of local South Australian and international products to create rustic dishes that bear all the hallmarks of great regional Italian cuisine. You can find Gepetto’s on the northern edge of the town along Mount Barker Road.
Truth be told, Gepetto’s at Hahndorf’s head chef Domenic Martino has worked in some of Adelaide’s most prestigious restaurants over the years, and it’s his nose for restrained and rustic Italian dishes that brought him into contact with his mate Domenic Romeo, whose restaurateur career has seen him train as a pizzaiola in southern Italy. Together they are bringing superb Italian cuisine to life for the Adelaide Hills community, offering a discerning menu of Italian classics spread out over weekend breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus a great selection of local South Australian and international wines.
Residents in the gorgeous Adelaide Hills town of Hahndorf know and love Gepetto’s breakfast menu, available on Saturdays and Sundays. Go for Domo’s eggs, oven-baked in a Napoletana sauce and served with parmesan and grilled ciabatta, or the whole hog with The Jumbo, an Italianate take on the classic Aussie big breakfast. Of course, the coffee at this Italian restaurant up on Mount Barker Road is superlative – get it iced when the sun’s out. Lunch and dinner is served Thursday through to Saturday, with Sunday lunch giving way to a special Sunday dinner menu that varies up the offering somewhat. The regular a la carte menu is brimming with classic Italian cuisine, from starters through to pasta dishes like the house-made ravioli, seafood risotto with prawns blue swimmer crab, secondi piatti like pollo parmigiana and famously authentic Neapolitan pizza.
A fab night out. Great atmosphere and great food. The stuffed chicken thigh special is delicious and the pizzas perfect, both juicy and crisp. We have been before and have been disappointed but tonight was amazing. We will be back
We visited this restaurant on a balmy evening with a table booked inside. We asked if we could change to outdoor and were pleasantly accommodated. Food was outstanding and huge! Staff friendly and very attentive.
we had such a great time at Gepettos for dinner. Food was amazing. Could not fault it. Great antipasto platter and pasta. Would highly recommend.
Amazing food and incredible service, we’ll be back! So authentic and fresh..garlic bread was delicious too! A must visit - kids loved it too. Worth the drive up to Hahndorf
We waited at the front of the restaurant for quite some time prior to being seen and seated, despite being a very early reservation and not many people in the restaurant. Bonus points that they gave our children paper and pencils, so the staff are obviously well versed with having children. The children's meals came quickly with our entree. The kids meals were huge! And very tasty. It took a few goes with staff to get our drinks ordered, and we were surprised with how long the mains too to come out. By this time the kids were getting fractious. My main - pork belly was yummy but the pork was dry :( My husband's gnocchi was fantastic. The desserts came out very quick. My husband loved the tiramisu, although did note they were heavy handed with the coffee. The food was pretty good; the drinks nice (although it would be good if they had Chianti available); the prices a bit pricey; but the real downfall was the staff and customer service. They were slow, unresponsive at times, and not very friendly. To be honest, there are plenty of other places to eat in Hahndorf that are much better.
Maybe the best Italian food in Australia...the girls serving the customers are an asset that adds to an enjoyable night. This beautiful place is relaxing and nothing is impossible .We love this place and will make it our regular restaurant. Thanks
Great Italian food and lovely service. I ordered the linguine frutti di mare (marinara), and my husband the chicken parmigiana both meals were great and our 2 year old enjoyed her snitzel and chips too.
Loved it, the mozarella and prosciutto entree from the specials board was wonderful. The pizza was delicious and the service was friendly and efficient. We had been there before and would definitely return.
Was a delicious meal. Enjoyed the atmosphere and friendly staff were a bonus. Red wine list is a little short on choice but I would have to recommend this restaurant to all.
Everything I ordered was tasty and the antipasto platter was a hit. Ordered the fried calamari and it was tender and not too salty. Service was also excellent, nothing was a hassle and would definitely eat here again.
