More about Monk & Me, Hawthorn East

Monk & Me is unlike any other Asian restaurant in Melbourne. Flying the flag for authentic hawker-style Malaysian cuisine, this Hawthorn restaurant offers food that comforts the body and soul. One of the few locations in town offering truly authentic Southeast Asian street food, this restaurant is hugely popular among locals looking to try something new as well as for emigres looking to enjoy a piece of home. Whether it’s for lunch, dinner or drinks, Monk & Me restaurant is certain to lure you away to another world.

From unique Asian cocktails to hearty main courses and decadent desserts, Monk & Me on Hawthorn’s Evans Place has all the bases covered when it comes to hawker-style Malaysian cuisine. Their menu is extensive, but we recommend beginning with some prawns in blues (deep-fried prawns curled with vermicelli and served with a chilli mayonnaise) before moving on to one of the enchanting chef specialties like the okra-wakra (pan-fried chicken and ham-wrapped okra served a black bean sauce). Spaces are limited at Melbourne’s famous Monk & Me, so be sure to book beforehand to avoid missing out!
