Tonight was Valentines Day and I must say that considering this place had a full house, all the staff were truly excellent in tending to everyone’s needs ! My partner and I are from Melbourne and we travel all over Australia and around the world,. So we definitely know amazing food, service and decor when we see it. The decor was excellent because it had a lot of Japanese flair about it, which I truly love as I embrace the Japanese culture whole heartedly. So now I get to the part about the food and well... OUTSTANDING !!! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 Despite the flood of customers, the food came out in a timely manor and the waiters and waitress remained friendly in the rush. The flavours of every single dish, truly sent shivers down our spines, smiles on our faces, as we left with full bellies. Keep up the amazing work and you now have two ex Melbournians that will now become regulars here. Thank you from Glenn and Neil.
I am wondering if the wait staff are put under a bit too much pressure in this Restaurant? They were pleasant and attentive, but we endured log waits for uncooked items like ice-cream, missed out on the rice all together, and watched the staff search the place for another "all-you-can-eat" menu when the next table asked for one! Things easy to improve - just a few more staff members, and please use filtered water in your green tea! The food was ok to poor, not really Japanese, just related to Japanese. Nothing tasted quite right - if you have never has any Japanese food before, you might think it ok, but to me it tasted like the poor relation of Japanese cooking! For example, hardly any salt on the edamame, a strange texture to the beef dish, very thin salmon and tuna on the sushi messed with the ballance of how sushi should taste. I gave it a try, but probably won't be rushing back! On the face of it the "all you can eat" deal seemed good value, but really they are taking short cuts on the quality of the food (so ::not:: a Japanese thing) while selling you the drinks! Stay longer, eat more, buy another beer!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Okami. The staff were excellent and friendly and the food was amazing. We could not fault any of the dishes and our whole table of 12 were impressed and enjoyed the experience. The food was freshly cooked and we ate as much as we wanted, just asking for more dishes as we went. It was an excellent night and we'll be back. (the only negative was that the restaurant is quite noisy but it was very full as well so to be expected I guess). Thankyou Okami, it was great!
This was our first visit here after many people recommending it to us. We were impressed with the food but very very disappointed with the service. I understand it was busy but that it no excuse for us to have to wait 45 minutes for a drink (after we had to check on this twice), to have to ask 3 times for a certain food dish, to have to try and get a waiters attention to clear empty dishes from our table as they were running past and even to get a fork for a few of us on the table took 10 minutes and then one of us having to go up and try and get them. We felt like we were an inconvenience to be there. There were 9 or us for family dinner and i would have expected to be treated with more respect than us have to try and get the waiters and never have them approach our table. Really disappointed with the service very different to the experience i thought we would have had.
Staff are great, the buffet is a bit expensive as the price has gone up. But our real problem is the warm sake. You are purchasing 150mls of sake but then it is heated (often over heated) so that the sake evaporates and what you are left with is 70 mls if you are lucky, in the bottom of the bottle. If you are charging people $8+ for warm sake it needs to be 150 mls of warm sake after it has been heated and evaporated not before. There is no point complaining to the manager who is lovely until you have a problem and then she is argumentative. We have been eating here a lot and as loyal customers expect better customer service than we receive. It is the job of staff to make us feel comfortable and have a pleasant time. Its not our job to keep the staff happy which seems to be her attitude.
