Melbourne hardly lacks good spots for breakfast, brunch and lunch among its crowded cafe scene, but few can boast of the original approach that’s Platform 20’s daily bread and butter. This cafe and restaurant along Bridge Road in Richmond gives the typical cafe menu a uniquely Malaysian and Indonesian twist. Here Asian and Peranakan cuisines meet perennial cafe favourites like waffles with bacon and ice cream, becoming gula melaka or palm sugar-glazed prosciutto chips with maple waffles and a bacon-infused ice cream, or eggs benedict on pulled pork with an Asian-inspired hollandaise. Presentation at Platform 20 is exceptional, from the rustic interior to each well-rounded dish. Plus, with the menu changing up a lot as the time goes it’s always a good to ask the friendly and reliable wait staff for their recommendations.
