Set in an incredible ex-industrial space down Rupert Street in the backstreets of Collingwood, Rupert On Rupert is one part cocktail bar, one part restaurant, 100% Melbourne. The booze takes in a global list of weird and wonderful tipples that are bound to tickle the tastebuds, whether you go for classic or custom cocktails, share a sumptuous wine with a loved one, or opt for a brew from the many rotating craft beer taps. The food menu follows through with novel, seasonal share plates alongside traditional wood-fired organic sourdough pizza, made by pizzaioli who love what they do. Laidback tunes for the dinner set segue into more sassy beats to keep the party going into the night. Ideal for a tete-a-tete but even better when you need a venue for a proper celebration, this hidden gem is a surefire couple and crowd pleaser.
What an excellent venue for catch ups with friends. The food is great too!
Great venue , the atmosphere and vibe was really warm and cosy on a cold winter night . Great place to have a group dinner and drinks . The staff were really helpful and accommodating. Can’t wait to go back ... would also be an excellent venue for a fuxniton .
The first thing that strikes guests when they arrive at Rupert On Rupert’s (yep) Rupert Street restaurant, set in a suitably ex-industrially-distressed but sensitively done up backblock of Collingwood, is the space itself, oozing quintessential but accessible cool. Mixing steel and repurposed shipping containers with copper detailing, it delivers a sense of exclusivity but also warmth. Whether you are visiting Rupert for a romantic date in the candlelit Cocktail Lounge, having after work cocktails with friends under the lush greenery of the Conservatory, or hitting the dance floor at an engagement party in the expansive Dining Hall, Rupert On Rupert has a space for every occasion. Whatever the circumstance, you’ll be heading back out into Melbourne full of belly and happy of heart.
Everything pizza-based and bread-oriented at Rupert On Rupert is made according to the ancient art of sourdough propagation. The kitchen uses certified organic Laucke flour to feed its stash of natural sourdough mothers, in turn feeding the restaurant’s beloved woodfired oven to produce some of Melbourne’s finest Neapolitan pies. You have your classic Italian margherita and Sicilian pizzas, but it gets mighty interesting when you take a crack at the Balkan (with slow-braised lamb shoulder and Hungarian feta), the Polack (paprika-spiced Debriciner sausage with confit garlic and an apple, pear and walnut preserve), the Madonna, the Tomislav... you get the picture – this is one inventive Collingwood pizza restaurant. The same innovation extends to Rupert On Rupert’s ace in the hole, their share plates. From charcuterie boards to vegetarian tasting plates, parsnip chips to golden balls (enquire within), fresh mussels, jerk chicken, Baharat tofu salads and more, dining here with friends is a smorgasbord. When it comes to drinks the variety is just as giddying. The regular beer selection is boutique enough, but Melbourne’s hop heads will be champing at the bit to get a draught from Rupert On Rupert’s twelve rotating microbrew taps. With wine a plenty, classic and house signature cocktails to boot, this Collingwood spot is decidedly hot.
