With quality food and first-rate service, the restaurant at The Spread Eagle Hotel really is a cut above those of other historic Melbourne hotels. Right in the heart of Richmond on Bridge Road, ‘The Spready’ has been offering good old-fashioned hospitality for over a century. Winning the hearts of locals and visitors alike with a well-stocked bar, specialty nights all through the week, a buzzing atmosphere and modern Australian cuisine, the Spready is the perfect stop for a few casual drinks or a total wine-and-dine experience.
Cosy and inviting – replete with multiple fireplaces, of course – the Spread Eagle Hotel on Bridge Road oozes old-fashioned charm. A beloved Richmond boozer and one of Melbourne’s historic hotels, the Spready is known for its busy weekends with live entertainment, as well as for its popular modern Australian dining options available every night of the week. There’s also a wide array of group booking packages available and a selection of private function rooms upstairs, so whatever you need for your next event, the Spready’s got you covered, too.
At The Spread Eagle Hotel you can tuck into some Aussie pub food favourites, such as beer-battered Australian fish and chips or the herbed veal schnitzel, or really indulge your taste buds with favourites like the Bultara Saltbush lamb rump, an exquisite dish you would struggle to find find at this value elsewhere in Melbourne. If you’re not after a full-blown meal, simply enjoy some tasty pub snacks that serve as the perfect partner to a pint. As one of Richmond’s most established and best loved pubs (and right in the thick of the action on Bridge Road), it’s never quiet, so book ahead to avoid disappointment!
As always, the best customer service. The wait staff can't do enough to assist you. Always ready to offer suggestions or a taste of a new beer to try.
Fabulous selection of food, great service & music too. pork belly was amazing as was the calamari, chili prawns, barramundi & steaks. Our German waitress was fun too 😊
Great pub. Very busy (Friday night) and we started next to a large group who were noisy (not excessively but not our "scene"). Wait staff were superb in shifting us discretely. Food, drinks and service all excellent.
Amazing steak, great service & accommodated a large table of 12. Fantastic ambiance, had a real “old school pub” vibe which was lovely. Couldn’t have asked for more.
The waitresses had to rearrange the table for us up stairs as there were additional visitors at the last moment . T hey were very understanding and delivered a lovely table upstairs ( for the blow ins " family !!! ) all good ... However , the food was exceptionable and delivered nice and hot .. Oh I forgot the dear waitress organised the heater near where we were sitting which made it more comfortable , all in all ( I'm a pie supporter ) but I also enjoyed viewing the great game in you hotel .. We have been b4 for dinner on other occasions , and we will be back . Full marks to your staff when the bill came to have sorted it professionally ..
We wanted to come into Richmond to experience that magnificent feeling following the brilliant win by the Tigers! What better way than to take advantage of the full on Richmond hospitality at the Spread Eagle Hotel. The service was spectacular, the food delicious and the atmosphere perfect! Thank you for adding to our victory experience!
I was recommended the Spready as the best steak night in town, so popular that reservations are required each and every week. From what looks like your standard old dodgy pub on Bridge Road from the outside, inside is sleek and yet comfortable space, with fabulous welcoming staff and just a great vibe. The star of the day, the steak, did not disappoint. Cooked to perfection, a slab of Porterhouse so big I was unable to finish it, accompanied by a delicious rocket salad and scalloped potato. This was my first visit to the Spready, but it most definitely will not be my last!
The Spread Eagle Hotel was very responsive when I booked a party of 20 for post-work drinks. They offered to reserve tables near the bar, as well as a dedicated bar menu. The open fire made it cosy and everyone had a fabulous time - I highly recommend the 'Spready' for after work drinks!
Our food was good and the price was right but what made the visit was the staff. Fantastic. They moved our table after we were seated in a doorway. We ordered KFC which is messy and the manager brought over extra napkins even though she didn't take our order. She just noticed we were eating the wings. Great recommendations from the staff for food choices also. Will go back. It was a Monday night and they were full. I think that tells you something.
Staff are so friendly, helpful and knowledgable about their menu and wines. They give you time to survey the menu and time to enjoy your meal. The food is so delicious. I feel despite the staff telling the chefs what we say, I wish we could thank them personally. The environment is great too. Roaring fire, such a welcoming pub!
