About House of Lulu White
Sth Central Social & Dining is one of the most stylish places to eat and drink in all of Melbourne – and that’s just a fact. It’s modern Australian cuisine that looks beautiful on your plate, with plenty of flair and flavour. The approach of chef Tom Johnstone is, you will be pleasantly surprised to hear, meat and three veg. It’s refined food made with progressive techniques, but it’s humble food, food that doesn’t need to scream from the rooftops of South Yarra to impress. This fine restaurant – set on Yarra Street – is open all week and offers a relaxed, yet extremely sophisticated spot to enjoy coffee, a light lunch or a long evening meal. Reserve a table now, you will not regret it.

A cosy brunch? A formal lunch? Coffee, with a biscuit to crunch? Or dinner? Sth Central Social & Dining can offer all of this to diners of South Yarra looking for an effortlessly cool restaurant with a modern Australian focus – this really is one of our favourite spots in Melbourne. A knowledgeable team is led by Leroy Smith and chef Tom Johnstone to offer a space that is perfect for all occasions but that does not cut corners when it comes to quality. The glass-fronted restaurant – ideally located on Yarra Street, just down from South Yarra station – is crisp and clean, with a strong showing of dark wood and a bar area that is more than pleasing on the eye. Sitting in Sth Central you will be content and relaxed, whether for a quick drink or a long, celebratory meal.
The modern Australian menu at Sth Central upholds a simple focus of meat and three veg, meaning understated, yet beautiful presentation as well as lashings of flavour are the elements that have to do the talking. And it’s clear this approach pays off: for breakfast opt for the breaky roll filled with glazed short rib, apple and wombok slaw, or buttered brussels on toast with kale, asparagus peas, poached egg and manchego. If you’re stopping by at dinner, start with beef tartare with truffle egg yolk and crispy potato skins, then consider moving onto some Cone Bay barramundi, served with sweet, caramelised onions and salty feta. Finish that with a side of roasted cauliflower with pomegranate and it’ clear to see: the food at Sth Central Social & Dining is refined, yet simple – foodies of South Yarra and, indeed, Melbourne, are quickly learning to remember the name. Great friendly service and the food was amazing with variety on the menu. Very reasonably priced and we had a great night out in a warm friendly atmosphere.
That staff are Veryy attentive and knowledgeable, perfect location, the food was amazing! Will definitely be back! Thank you so much for a Fantastic day! Highly recommend
Great food, great service, fantastic cocktails all you can drink cocktails (for $30!!! bargain). I had the smashed avo, which was delicious. In fact, I'm going back this Saturday to try the breakfast gnocchi!
We had heard good reviews. The food was sensational and even better than we expected. The service was impeccable and we will definitely be back
What a top little spot hidden up alongside the railway line. Relaxed funky atmosphere, delightful staff who are attentive and conversational but not intrusive and the food is fantastic - not a foot wrong across a couple of starters and mains. Had never heard of the place previously but would certainly recommend it now.
We had a great time. The food was yummy and the staff very welcoming. Also Kudos to the bartender on the night. I asked for a smokey old-fashioned, unfortunately they didn't have any heavily peated whiskeys on hand but they improvised with a young Tasmanian whiskey and a smoke gun. :D
Amazing food, and great service. Really good value for a Sunday morning brunch, and will definitely be coming back. The Bottomless Breakfast Cocktails are a nice concept (that I miss from many American brunch restaurants). And the food is steps above normal cafes, with not costing much more.
The ambience of this restaurant is brilliant (considering they're located across the road from the train station). Great food, cooked to perfection with professional staff. The only downside- their dessert menu was a little slim on options for those of us who don't partake in alcohol
Food ok but when you're freezing cold (seriously, get some proper heating system), sitting with a thick winter jacket, it's quite hard to enjoy the experience. Half empty restaurant and they couldn't manage the two groups of six that came just as we were eating our main. Having a hassle on both sides on what was meant to be our romantic once-in-a-year-dinner-out is not exactly what you want. Waitress did not really know what the dishes were about. Also, the drink menu leaves nothing for those wanting a nonalcoholic drink. Big disappointment overall and we we left without the dessert to avoid any further inconvenience.
South Central is not only a beautiful dining experience with delicious food - but the service is 10/10! Leigh is a star and made sure we were well looked after. Couldn't recommend South Central more!
My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Sth Central. Very relaxed, welcoming and the food delicious. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. We will be back.
Sensational food. Great ambience. Attentive staff. Quality all the way. Reasonable prices. Top shelf! Do yourselves a huge favor and give this place a try. Highly recommended indeed.
Wow what a place. Food was delicious and the service attentive. Would definitely go back. The king fish entree and barramundi main are a must have. Enjoy!!!
We went there fore a team breakfast. The location is very conveniently located. The food was good and service was fast and efficient. Will gladly go back.
Tried out the lunch menu. We had chicken salad, Gnocci and some fries. All tasted fantastic. We will be back soon to try their dinner!
Great Location, nice Ambiance. Excellent service from the lovely Lianna and a overall good experience. The blue cheese is actually very nice, steaks are good, Fish is excellent!
Friendly, attentive and excellent service. Food was great too. We mixed and matched the meal. The vegetable side dishes were a highlight. We would definitely dine there again.
Good service and great food. Salted rib eye was our favourite. Feels like a local gem. Worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood of South YarrA.
Lovely restaurant with great food and attentive staff, but a relaxed atmosphere. Went for dinner, but would be keen to try it for breakfast too.
Amazing food and service - would have rated 6 if it wasnt for the long wait. Try the shared Rocky Rd dessert - absolutely yummy
Great spot in South Yarra for a late breakfast or brunch! Will check out for dinner soon
Was a bit loud and staff intrusive. But food was good. I would recommend for bigger groups of rather than couples for an intimate date.
