Thai Carnation is not only one of Wollongong’s premier Thai eateries, it’s arguably the city’s most stylish and best located, right in the city centre. Found at the corner of Crown and Corrimal streets, Thai Carnation is just a short walk from the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre, Wollongong Art Gallery, MacCabe Park and Win Stadium. Still, you don’t need to be a lover of culture, nature or the Dragons to appreciate it, because Thai Carnation could be just about anywhere and it would still be as good thanks to its elegant atmosphere and superb Thai food. In operation since the early 1990s, Thai Carnation have well and truly mastered Thai classics like tom yum, Thai beef salad and pad kee mao to suit Australian preferences, but it’s the rest of the menu that puts Thai Carnation a class above most other Thai restaurants, and we recommend something like the whole calamari stuffed with ground chicken, or the ‘Crying Tiger’ grilled marinated beef, to get the full experience.
