Canberra may have its fair share of Thai restaurants, but Thai Chiang Rai is a name that stands out from the rest. With two restaurants in the city – a testament to their popularity – Thai Chiang Rai is all about authenticity, serving up dishes crafted using time-honoured recipes and cooking techniques. Begin with some coconut prawns, chicken satay or curry puffs before trying a traditional Thai curry, a bowl of tom yum goong soup, or something more adventurous like the duck paa-lo (slow-cooked duck legs with figs and Thai spices served with steamed asparagus). You’ll find Thai Chiang Rai’s Belconnen branch located on Emu Bank – guarantee a table at this local hotspot by making a reservation in advance!
The food was enjoyable throughout (mixed entree, Massuman curry beef, scallops, Macadamia nuts and special fried rice) and we landed a nice wine. Service was very helpful.
We had a very pleasant evening with visitors from interstate, helpful and friendly service and excellent renditions of many of the Thai favourites. Not adventurous but solidly reliable and enjoyable.
Speedy service and very tasty. Best Laksa I’ve had in ages. Very good stir fry dishes. Good variety of wines. Good list of specials. Decor very nice
