This place has lost a lot of its charm now that it is twice the size. And sadly the food didn’t wow me like it did last time either. However the bartender was making some pretty amazing cocktails whilst we were there so I would recommend trying one or two of those!

Ordered the seafood starter. Really dry and nothing special at all. Also ordered seafood linguini and fennel salad. All very bland and nothing special. The quality has gone down substantially over the last couple of years.

Best Italian food ever. The yellow fin tuna was amazing and the calamari was out of this world! Cosy and intimate, the staff were beyond helpful. Fantastic experience.

We enjoyed the night. Excellent food. Waiters, while enthusiastic, can be a little 'pushy' in relation to wanting a response on food orders. Overall, a very good ambience.

Awesome! Food and wine was delightful. Wine list was longer than the food menu. The smoked Negonis were a delight. Great service. A good place to dine.

Lovely waiters, knowledgeable about food, wine and combinations between. Food was well sized and brought to the table faster than anticipated. Overall lovely evening and atmosphere since the renovation. Worth a visit!

Enjoyed the meal, stafff we very informative BUT I felt like I was sitting with the couple next to us for the seating is way to close.

Friendly staff and helpful. The atmosphere was great, good vibe. But if you are looking for quiet place for dinner, you got to find elsewhere. Nevertheless, the Pasta and steak was awesome! Would definitely go back there again

The pastas were gluggy & tasteless. We were charged for items not actually served, the waiter tried to convince us that we got them. Wine is very overpriced.

The good: - The food and wine were terrific, and good value - Service was generally good (see below though) - Venue / ambience is good (without being anything special) The not-so-good: - There was a staple on the plate under my bruschetta. I saw nothing to suggest this wasn't just a one-off mistake, but obviously not ideal. - Service completely disappeared later in the evening, as the staff prepared to close for the night. - Credit card surcharges - and on all card types. IMO, credit card surcharges are barely OK at the "best" of times, and definitely not when you're already paying $100+ per person for a meal. A sour note to end the night.

Beautiful italian food, great atmosphere, attentive service. The new venue is swanky and I loved it! Although I think I liked the North Carlton venue a bit more!

Food and atmosphere was great. Understandably, we had a 2 hr seating, but felt a bit rushed esp having food (even though trying to be done nicely) scooped from sharing dishes onto our plates to speed us up.

Beautiful food and wine and knowledgeable staff. Even a great cocktail menu! Would love to see a couple of wood fire pizzas available for sharing.

Well done to the team. Best Italian food - Nonna Style. Great service and most staff speak Italian. Great location heaps of parking nearby. Modern clean layout inside. Definitely worth the money.

Food great, lively atmosphere but still possible to have a conversation and be heard. Service informed and helpful without interfering. Informal but skilled and enjoyable- a rare combination.

The restaurant has a good vibe for a Friday night. Decent Italian restaurant but not mind blowing. The service was good but not amazing. I would go again

Dining at 38 chairs is a great experience. The food is amazing and the service is top notch. The only minor criticism is that some of the tables are too close together and you end up bumping elbows with the person at the next table. Don't let that deter you though.

Food was not bad except for the risotto which I found wasn’t cooked quite enough. Service and environment was great! Will visit again if I have a chance.

Thirty Eight Chairs has absolutely delicious pasta, beautiful wine and such a gorgeous setting. Had a great night out with friends. will definitely be back!

Great reputation but tonight my king prawns and sweet potato fries were luke warm and we were rushed in and didn’t feel like the service was friendly enough to warrant the way this place is talked up by friends.

Food was delicious and attentive staff made the experience even better. Try a Negroni or Aperol Spritz if you go there: best I’ve had. Very enjoyable- look forward to returning

Fabulous still - but a little more "posh" than the original. Has become a lot more fine dining than the rustic Italian it started out as.

The food was was very good. The service was a bit slow and the music played was too loud. Overall a good evening with delicious food.

Wow! An old favourite returns! Renovations are finished and everything looks and feels fantastic! Food was amazing as always!

Great pasta, and a fantastic wine list. Waiters are very attentive and knowledgable. A little inflexible with the pasta sauces but otherwise a very enjoyable experience.

The decor and ambience was great. Service was friendly, but relatively slow give the restaurant wasn't busy. The meals were delicious, although the pasta mains lacked depth in flavour. Other than that, the pasta was cooked to perfection, the entrees were also very good, wine selection was broad and the way they'd designed the wine list was different and easy to read. I will definitely be back!

There was an excellent menu with some fine pasta choices. The food, for both my wife an me, was tasty, sufficient and in her words delightful.Wonderful selection of wines and terrific service. Well worth a visit.

Food was excellent and service friendly. The calamari entree was light and fresh. The maccheroni and ravioli pasta’s are delicious. We will definitely be returning soon.

Had a nice meal with some great wine and prosecco that complimented what we had. The tiramisu was particularly good with the addition of some chocolate cream. Otherwise, a great place for a smart casual meal that tastes like great quality home food.

Service, ambiance, and food - all exceptional. A great dining experience was had. A benchmark in how a restaurant should be run. I look forward to doing it again.

I love Italian pasta and wine. Tried them all and they are absolutely delicious. Good friendly invirontmen. Will go again soon. Keep it up guys.

Authentic delicious Italian cuisine. I find the food fantastic and the wait staff is great and very attentive. We will definitely be back again soon.

Unfortunately the service was quite rude. They were very pushy with the drinks menu and when it was clear we didn't want to drink the attitude completely turned. The food was under-seasoned and a little stodgy -there was so much sauce smothering everything. I expected a more authentic italian dining experience based on simple, quality fresh produce, but this was overdone and a little lacklustre.

Service as ok. Food was less enjoyable compared to when we went before the renovations. Used to be on par with Tipo00. Regreatfully not anymore.
