The private kitchen concept is all the rage in Hong Kong right now, with gourmets gathering in speakeasy-style basements or the private residences of chefs for bespoke banquets that you’re unlikely to find on a la carte menus of regular restaurants. With Australia’s proximity to Asia and huge Asian population, it was only a matter of time before the private kitchen restaurant trend made it to these shores. Here in Perth’s West Leederville, Andly Private Kitchen is leading the charge with high-class Chinese cuisine prepared with flair and plated with a special sense of aesthetics. There’s no menu – diners decide what they’d like to see on the table (and what they wouldn’t) – and from there it’s up to eponymous, distinguished head chef Andly (also host and waiter) to work his magic at his exclusive venue on Oxford Close.

Under the helm of chef Andly, Andly Private Kitchen Leederville is a unique concept space unlike anything Perth has ever seen before. Specialising in Chinese cuisine, dining here is more like going to a friend’s place for dinner, rather than a fully fledged restaurant. There is a focus on high quality, local ingredients that are handpicked by chef Andly himself, before being transformed into mouth-watering dishes. The atmosphere here seamlessly blends both elegant and informal dining elements and the result makes for an unforgettable experience at Andly Private Kitchen.

So, what can you expect from the menu at Andly Private Kitchen? Well, as we mentioned before there’s no set menu as such. Rather, guests can opt for one key ingredient and then Andly will design an entire degustation menu showcasing the very best of the chosen ingredient. Not only that, but the standard relationship between chef and diner is blown out of the water at Andly Private Kitchen. Instead, chef Andly comes out from the kitchen and speaks with his guests, not only hosting them but charming them too – so there really is a sense of dining in his home. Talk about service! Located on Oxford Close in West Leederville, this space is one of the most exciting dining experiences in Perth and is a must for Chinese-loving foodies. Reservations are essential!

We went to Andly Private Kitchen for our wedding anniversary. The experience did not disappoint. There was six courses and we were thoroughly impressed by each and every dish. You are able to see Andly's passion for food in the dishes he prepares. The favourite for us was the sea snails.

My husband and I had a very enjoyable meal at Andly Private Kitchen. The food was authentic Chinese with a modern twist. Each dish came beautifully presented, the flavours were well balanced, and there was plenty of food too! The meal was tailored to what we enjoyed eating, and it was exciting not knowing what they would bring out next. The service was excellent and I felt the whole experience was very personalised. Even better was the $2.50 corkage :) A standout dish for us was the schezuan style snow crab with beer sauce which was succulent with a hint of sweetness and that tingly feeling you get from the schezuan peppers. This is one of the better dining experiences we've had in Perth and I'd recommend Andly to friends. It was a pity the restaurant was only 2/3 full on a Saturday night given the quality of the meal was exemplary.
