Baja Cantina

Terrible!! Even though it is advertised as a BYO restaurant & I had booked for 9 people, when we got there I was told we could not bring wine because there were more than 5 of us. Something that they should, perhaps, have mentioned when I made the booking. I dine at BYO restaurants frequently & this is the very first time I have ever encountered this. You either let people bring their own wine or you don't. I would not have made the booking if I had been aware of this policy. Instead, I felt misled & ripped off. I explained that there were only 2 of us drinking wine, 4 of us were non-drinkers & the others would be buying beer with the meal, but the waitress still refused to allow us to open our wine. The restaurant wine list was lousy & over-priced, so the 2 wine drinkers just drank tap water with our meals - v disappointing when I'd bought a lovely bottle to share & really detracted from our evening. The soft drinks that were available were cheap undrinkable soda-stream versions of coke etc - but still charged at $4,50 a glass. My calamari (is over-crumbed/ frozen/ deep-fried traditional Mexican way?) & the side salad were both horrible but the tacos & nachos that were ordered by others looked OK. Generous helpings noted, but resulted in a lot of left over food that nobody wanted to take home, as I would have if the food had been more appealing. There was a good duo playing Mexican music, but it was way, way too loud & made conversation in our large group very difficult. If it was softer, it would have been a positive as they did sound like good musicians. Service was OK, if a little slow taking our order. 1 star is generous, but this site doesn't do 1/2 stars. There are much better restaurants around than this. We won't be back.

We have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant in Sydney for ages. We are from Texas and appreciate the true flavours of quality Tex Mex and they are certainly delivered at Baja Cantina. We'll be back!!

Love this place! The food is always delicious and the service was great. The musicians (albeit entertaining) were way too loud - making conversation at the table difficult.

We had fast service for such a big table. We were running late a little late so we called ahead and they did not have a problem with it which was polite.

Excellent quality food, great service, reasonably priced and generous proportions. Will definitely dine there again. They have got many vegetarian options on their menu too!

Lovely fried taquitos and good margaritas! I would recommend the carnitas (pork) one! The beer garden in the back is nice and relaxing! Good selection of hot sauces!

Table was ready for us even though we arrived early. Food was great. Had no issues at all Staff were friendly and the place was clean

Hard to get staff attention but food was great with the exception of one of our desserts - cake was missing half the bottom section. Would definitely return though.

Happy with it, first time coming to Baja even though I've lived in Glebe my whole life. Only thing that was negative is that our table was taken so we had to be seated elsewhere which only took a few minutes. All in all it was good, great food/great service. Thank you

The sangria is sweet and strong, the food is good and the beer garden is lovely. There are quite a few vegetarian options and lots of starters suitable for sharing which makes this a great venue for groups. The service was prompt and efficient.

Had a really great evening at Baja Cantina as always, the food was delicious (the queso dip in particular is to die for) and the service was incredibly quick and friendly. Would highly recommend this place to all, best Mexican in the area

Great food, large portions and reasonable prices. Cocktails are amazing. This place is kid friendly too. The only reason I scored it a 5 instead of 6 is because they don't serve coffee.. But they do have some desserts. Will definitely eat here again!

Our regular Mexican restaurant. Service was very prompt as always and the food and drinks were of their usual high quality. We will be coming back soon.

There was lots of atmosphere with live music and very friendly service. Their was a good selection of food and they gave very generous portions. Mine was so big I couldn't eat it all.

The food is consistently delicious! We have to get our fix each and every week. Such friendly and welcoming staff. We feel part of the family.

Huge tasty servings especially the ceviche and nachos. Tasty cocktails. Slightly annoying booking times - only 630 or 830 but still worth it. Getting hungry writing this review...

Third time back, best mexican hands down in Sydney, live music, atmosphere and very friendly service. Have order different dish each visit and each is induvidual. Will be going back again. 😊❤️

Good food - huge portions! I would have preferred less salad and more guacamole, cheese, etc. but that's possibly just personal taste. Decent service, not super attentive, but we had what we needed. Would go again!

This place has some of the best & most authentic Mexican in Sydney. We absolutely love it there. The atmosphere is great (loved the live music tonight) and the wait staff is friendly. Unfortunately, tonight they were also really hard to catch - flagging down a server for anything we needed challenging, and there were a couple of mixups with items we ordered. This is a rare occurrence, though - usually the service is just fine. Think we just caught a particularly busy night. We'll definitely be back, and if you want authentic Mexican (not Aussie-style Mexican fusion, but solid Mexican food you'd get at solid Mexican restaurants in the U.S.), this place is a great choice.

Went as a group of 6, pre booked. First time and loved it! Portion sizes are good, so much food left over as it's easy to get full on the starters! Definitely recommend

Always a great experience. My favourite Mexican on Glebe Point Road. Great food and great service without any pretention. Very highly recommended to anyone (And I used to live in California, so I know what the real thing tastes like)

Baja Cantina has a fantastic, vibrant atmosphere and great tasting food. Seating indoors and out the back in the leafy green courtyard. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu and even better when paired with a jug of sangria!

Authentican mexican food, The classic margarita was more than good! I loved the experience so much and I will come back with my friends soon

Great food decent size portions , reasonably affordable , quirky atmosphere , could do with air conditioning though , otherwise highly recommend , the nachos are amazing !

The food was bar none - the BEST Mexican I have found in Sydney. Without doubt! I was extremely unhappy with the service. Our water was warm (as was our sangria). We had to ASK for ice - multiple times. I wasn't sure who our server was and there was no attentiveness. Fair enough if the place was packed - but it wasn't. Disappointed but will return for the delicious dips, taquitos, and burritos.

From the casual atmosphere, friendly staff, live music, extensive beer menu to the absolutely delicious food - you simply can not go wrong with Baja Cantina!

Food amazing but the service was not great. Also, booked a table and we got the worst table in the restaurant. We will return for the food but I will never let them choose my table again.

My favourite Mexican restaurant in Sydney... Excellent service and brilliant food. Things can get loud and I mean really loud after a few sangrias and tequila, so wouldn't recommend it for a dinner meeting 😂

Great service and wonderful food. Best Mexican I've had in Sydney and amazing portion sizes! Make sure you book in if you plan to go, it does get busy!

Food all felt a bit 'samey', service slowed down towards the end of the meal. 2% surcharge on card payments in this day and age is ridiculous

It's hard to find good Mexican food in Sydney. It's here!! Great service and fun, busy atmosphere. Glebe has many good restaurants. This is amongst the best.

Ceviche was delicious, everyone enjoyed the food Unfortunately there was a table of incredibly rude,obnoxious, burping females who made it unpleasant for a few tables.

Good food. Big servings. Just a very rude waitress who rolled her eyes at us and told us as soon as we sat down that we had to be out a a certain time. I booked this dinner for 10 people so it did kill the good vibe a little bit. Besides her being rude everything else was good.

Great food and friendly service. If you want the set menu be sure to pre order this 2 days before going as they do not allow you to have the set menu with out notice.

Ate here recently with a group of 7 on the patio. The highlight, besides the Bajaritas of course, was the mixed dips starter. Everyone agreed the queso dip was their favorite, but the guacamole and salsa were good as well. The patio is a great place to dine. The mains were good, not spectacular. A decent place to go to get your fix of Mexican food.

Fantastic, traditional restaurant. Delicious food and great environment, will be going back for sure. Only improvement required bigger tables to fit all the food on:)

Really yummy food, fast service and massive meals. Must to go place for groups, as I find it difficult to finish food between 2 people. Always go here for Mexican!

Loved it. They were really busy, but the team were still professional, helpful and especially patient and friendly. The food and the band were the big winners on the night, as it just completed the casual and warm atmosphere. Would happily recommend to anyone to dine there. Reasonable prices and you walk away feeling very very full.

Really nice service. Tried the Carnito Taquitos, Tamale With Beef & Chipotle Salsa, and Churros. Really tasty food with some spicy kick. Would recommend and try this restaurant.

Very joyful ambience. Lovely staff. Food is always YUMMMMY. 😃 It was my partner's birthday. They arranged the cakes and the music. Very efficient and surely to be visited again.
