Fusing together the best dishes of Southern California, Texas, Mexico and South America, this restaurant offers guests the chance to try something that can’t be found anywhere else. You’ll find the restaurant along Bent Street in the CBD, hidden among graffiti-covered walls and two black doors. Contrabando’s extensive menu includes a number of munchies, quesadillas, tacos, sharing plates and desserts, all of which are made from scratch daily. Starting off with the Truck Stop Guac served with pico de gallo and corn chips is an absolute must before deciding from heartier options like the quesadillas stuffed with suckling pig, chipotle vinaigrette and salsa chimichurri, the tacos with Wagyu beef cheek, smashed avocado, tomato and citrus salsa, or the cheeseburger tacos filled with smashed Wagyu pattie, salsa roja, jack cheddar, habanero mustard mayo and a baby lettuce coleslaw. To finish, the dulce de leche flan with peanut praline is simply divine. Booking ahead is essential for this innovative Latin American restaurant in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.
