Lorenzo and the team are amazing and very welcoming this was our first time at Don Fred and recommended we try the banquet to experience a bit of everything and it didn’t disappoint it was amazing. When is a date lunch as decadently delicious as a date night? When it’s located at Don Fred. A big thank you to the loveliest restauranteur in Sydney, Lorenzo, (owner of Don Fred) for providing a feast worthy of special occasion for my hubby and I at lunch yesterday. Lorenzo transformed what is considered a salad into a stand alone meal with the capresie. The marrying of the flavours of the marinated and roasted capsicum, with the rocket and shaved parmesan was sublime. Our second entree was the very realistic Konjamari Fried, which is served with fresh lemon, cracked salt & pepper and seaweed tartare…wow it’s crazy good! The impossibly thin chips with rosemary and sea salt are so moreish that one must exert portion control in order to reserve enough room for the main! And to the afore mentioned main; as a gluten-free tragic, it’s very rare to find enjoyable bread. However, the Don Fred gluten-free, charcoal focaccia is so soft and delicious it beggars belief that it is in fact gluten-free. Couple the amazing bread with crunchy zucchini chips and ricotta and you have a delectable and filling main. Hubby chose the Parmigiana Focaccia, which includes layers of crispy eggplant, Napoletana sauce, parmesan sauce, basil and grated parmesan. Now the challenge is to fit in the best Choc Mousse you’ve ever tried!! If your are lucky enough to snag a few minutes of Lorenzo’s time for a chat, you will be rewarded with a dining experience that will see you coming back time and time again. We are completely addicted and rate Don Fred as our favourite restaurant of all time.

Don Fred is a cozy and funky restaurant, with an incredible menu and wine list. Tasty, delicious food with exceptional service. Lorenzo is warm, hospitable and friendly and he goes above and beyond to ensure all guests are comfortable and happy. Highly recommended

This was a really good restaurant. Decent sized servings (we took some of our carbonara and beans away as there was so much!). Excellent vegan Italian and I hate saying it but you'd never know it was vegan because we wanted vegan but for those friends/family members who might be "suspicious" I'd definitely recommend it.

It’s always nice to go somewhere to eat and know your fully eating vegetarian/vegan and that there is no compromise to made! Personally for me I think the menu was a little bit too fried! I know this is probably down to our choice of zucchini wedges/arrancini/sausage sub followed my mushroom ragu (which was by far my favourite and I highly recommend!) I booked in for the 7 course taster but when we turned up we wasn’t hungry enough for this option. When I told the waiter I’d just like to order from the normal menu, he told me ‘your loss’ this I didn’t appreciate tbh. I felt there afterwards we weren’t given the same kind of service! This will not stop me going again, but with so many plant based restaurants in Newtown, I won’t rush.

Absolutely fantastic from the moment I walked in the door. Greeted by wonderful staff, super cosy without being cramped, cool tunes at just the right volume, fabulous drinks & omg the food....superb! (We opted for the banquet) Will definitely be back.

The banquet menu was delicious! We were very full after the 7 shared courses. Lorenzo is clearly passionate about this place and promoting plant-based dining and answered any questions we asked about how he replicated certain meat- foods.

We have vegan friends and it was great for them to be able to eat everything on the menu instead of a few boring options at other standard restaurants. And the fact it was Italian is an extra bonus. Very cosy, delicious food, great atmosphere with exceptionally friendly service. Highly recommended!!

The food is exceptional and the value for money, especially these days, is wonderful. The service is warm, welcoming and extremely accommodating. The drinks are great. The only complaint I have is that they aren't open all the time or closer to my home!!!

We had the 7 Course tasting menu. We didn't really have the courses explained to us for had to keep looking at the blackboard to check what we were eating. I think, skip one of the savoury courses and have something sweet at the end would be better than 7 savoury courses. Lovely atmosphere.

I am an absolute mash potato fiend, and the mash that comes with the vegan ragu is delectable. The ragu was really yummy too. Such a relaxed and friendly team!
