El Mexicano Kitchen & Bar - Glenelg

Food was great Service was great except for one thing that totally ruined the experience. I specifically asked for a break between the entree and the main as I find some venues have no idea diners want an experience that is not rushed. It was not busy and was not busy when we left, so no excuse. We had hardly started the entree and the main arrived. I was so upset when I specifically asked. No apology? I would have thought this is 101 in hospitality, in fact I know it is! A break between courses is basic. Unfortunately I was a little short with the lady that delivered the mains so my apologies to her. Not happy, surely this is basic as mentioned and I shouldn’t even have to ask for a break in courses. Even the lady I am now apologising to should have seen we had only just started our entree and asked? As mentioned the rest of the service was fine. The last part was also a shock, when paying the bill it asked for consideration of a tip amount . The automated amounts on the app were 15%, 20%, 25% followed by customised and no tip. What the hell do we have a figure so high in Australia as automated starting at 15% is just mind blowing, if you haven’t had this feedback you should have. Normally I tip but again due to the nature in the way it is presented I just got put out. Coming back from overseas just recently I am aware these are automated but they were 5%, 10% and 15% and in countries more familiar with tipping so why is yours such a high level, I found it quite confronting and completely inappropriate for Australia. Little things differentiates the businesses that are the best and the ones that are not, I will leave it at that, apologies for the rant. I have no interest in getting a dollar amount for providing a review or having this feedback published as it is for internal review only and not the broader community.

It was OK. Nothing more. Food was OK, atmosphere was OK, the attitude of one of the servers might have been better... we aked for a couple of side plates which were tossed, rather than placed, onto the table. I'll not make a public post as, unless I'm really uoset, I don't leave negative reviews on Google. We eat out 200+ times a year, so we know what to expect. This didn't quite do it. No matter, we leave on Tuesday and may never be back in Glenelg.

Food was great. Mixed drinks were on point. Worth the trip to visit this place. Highly recommended

Absolutely smashing food. Loved it and will have to return. Only negative was $28 worth of Jalapeño poppers when I wanted the $8 serve they gave us 8 poppers or 4 serves. Partly my fault. Service was good overall. Nothing amazing but good and the food came out at very good timing. Highly recommend.

Entree should be enjoyed before the mains come out, not all at the same time

Food good, service poor & slow, waited 20 mins and had to ask for a drink, ordered food at same time as had waited so long, then were not offered any other drinks through out our 2.5 hours visit

The food was really good and well prepared, however the service was very poor. I’m not sure if they were understaffed, but looking around the room it seemed like most tables were waiting for service. We wanted to order more food, but it felt like a hassle to do so due to the lack of attention. Because of this, the overall vibe of the restaurant felt off and it took away from what could have been a great experience.

Sorry to say I left disappointed. The corn came out cold - not even lukewarm - my kids commented on them being cold too. The chips and salsa were a tiny serve and the chips were cold too. They upsell you on the guacamole but don’t tell you it’s $3.50 extra on every item you say yes to having guacamole with. My spicy marg was pretty good. Overall left paying quite a hefty amount for one adult and two kids and they also charged me a $2.62 card charge - I paid cash. Not good enough. Would not return.

Food was great! Service too! Missed out on balcony seat which was a bummer. Toilets need some attention.

Wait time was very long to be served, then to get drinks then our meal, we had to find the waitress. Food was okay but not amazing

Delicious tasty food! Loved the prawn taco, in particular. Great view from the balcony & a good selection of wines & beers. Will definitely be back!

Must be honest food was great. Waiting staff were friendly and did the best job they could do but were let down by the bar staff. My wife’s margarita took 15min to come out, it’s literally a Mexican restaurant. I asked the bar tender a man who was wearing a sleeveless top, he told me there were other customers rudely. My wife’s food came out 5mins after the rest as well. We were given a desert for free by one of the young waiting staff, I would’ve preferred the manager to bring it out and apologise. Really unhappy with the bartender.

Ask for a quiet spot got the noisiest below a speaker and next to kitchen, they couldn't figure the drinks out, most of the food was Luke warm to cold and they forgot 2 of the main meals and side, when asked they were confused, our friend had completely finished her meal by the time we got it. Gave us a odd desert as an apology but I'd rather have preferred an apology, better service, better food and pride reduction

Atmosphere was amazing & food was fabulous 👌 also loved the lemon lime & bitters w cinnamon on the rims of the glass!!

It was amazing food but one of the meals came out was chicken instead of vegan and my friend didn’t realise as she thought it was fake chicken at the start and then realised it was different from mine which was also vegan. My other friend waited 2 hours for their tacos which was not good.

Awful service from seating to ordering & delivery.... I can't find anything positive to say. No napkins on the table, food not brought out at the same time as requested, no sharing plates, I could go on. Food was so below average. From over charred corn to sloppy tacos, non existant mango chutney & overdressed slaw that could have been from a previous made supermarket packet. Terrible. AVOID

Although the food is always amazing, with each subsequent visit the service is getting worse and worse. To have two of three drinks delivered to your table and end up having to go into the bar to find out where it is, just to see it sitting on the bar, is ridiculous especially when you’ve nearly finished your meal. A table of three people with only two serviettes and sets of cutlery available to use; simple things easily fixed with a bit of attention, that really take away from a great night.

Nice place with great vibes in the heart of Glenelg. It is on the busy street with steep staircase to get to the restaurant upstairs. Food quality was good, great service from the wait staff and priced reasonably for a great night out. Might want to avoid if there are mobility concerns.

We ordered Vegan tofu loaded fries for a starter. Had to be returned TWICE! First the chef used cows milk and the second time they used cows milk shredded cheese. The vegan tofu loaded fries arrived at the end of the dinner! Cannot believe that they charged us for them. First and last visit to this restaurant. Paella was not very tasty either, to oily and not at all like a Spanish dish, experience and food very disappointing!

In my opinion everything was perfect and the service was just amazing .Thanks for the beautiful surprise with the happy birthday song at the end of the dinner for my father' s birthday. Regards Cristina

We booked the bottomless lunch. Sat for 40 minutes and didn’t receive any food or drinks so we left. They were understaffed and under prepared. The waitress wasn’t even aware of the brunch deal. It would have cost $78 for 90 minute. Went to another restaurant on Jetty Road and had a bottomless brunch. Cost $60, endless drinks and food arrived within 15 minutes. I would not recommend this to anyone.
