We hadn't been to Jimmy Watson's for a while but will definitely return after last night's dinner. The tuna salad was great and the panna cotta delicious. Service was a little erratic and noise level was high at times, but it is a neighbourhood gem.

A very noisy table made it very hard to have a reasonable conversation

Jimmy Watsons is a Melbourne/Carlton institution. The mean age of the diners must be 70? I always meet old friends there. The ambiance and service is excellent with no frills. Just consistent service with, of course, some very good wines. Conversation is the name of the game. Us venerable folk have a wealth of information to share. Jimmy’s is the place to do that.

The food waiter was excellent. The coffee waiter spilt my coffee on the saucer and did not even notice. I had to use a napkin to clean it up.

It was good, lovely waiter, food average, there was an argument between owners

Decor was shabby, tables were too small, had to pay extra for sides and sauces. Ordered pepper sauce on my steak, got gravy out of a packet with no peppercorns, ordered green leaves, bot boiled broccoli.

Staff were great. Wine selection was good. The food was average. pizza was sloppy and undercooked. Arancini balls were dry. ‘Foccacia’bread was just white sliced bread served with packaged butter.

A fabulous institution that has weathered the test of time very well. I’ve been a patron of Jimmy Watson’s for some 30 years and it’s still serving up great food, brilliant wines, a chilled atmosphere where you can actually have a conversation, and service focused staff who know their trade.

As our table was very near the kitchen; while pondering over the menu on what to order, the chef came & to offer his suggestions. We took most of his advice. All food items really tasty. Special mention goes to my meal of mussels in white wine & chilli tomato base. Best I’ve had for many years. Just the right spice & chili factor. Have asked the waitress to pass on feedback. Calamari so fresh, the homemade bread, lamb rack etc

Excellent shared vegetarian platter very good value for two. Tables a little too small for four people.

I like Jimmy's but this was a disappointing experience. My dish, which contained a minimal amount of poached salmon and some rocket, cost $30 and arrived without any dressing. I had to ask for this to be added. We arrived at 7pm and had to leave shortly after 8.30 because the staff were closing up. We were not offered dessert because the kitchen was closed. I can't believe that this is an appropriate way to run a restaurant.
