About Lavana Restaurant

Right by the water in Walsh Bay, one of the most buzzing areas of Sydney, Lavana Restaurant is a tapas treat to behold. This is an excellently located restaurant – right on Hickson Road in Dawes Point – and seeing as it’s right opposite the Sydney Theatre Company, Lavana Restaurant makes the perfect pre or post-theatre grazing spot. The tapas menu is curious and moorish, but there’s also an additional mains menu if small plates and sharing isn’t quite your style. And, of course – as you would expect from any top draw Spanish restaurant – the wine list is long. We love Lavana.

Further Information

Sydney is not short of culinary choice, but if you’re around Dawes Point, Walsh Bay or you just fancy some Spanish cuisine that is going to put rather a large smile on your face, then Lavana Restaurant is where you need to be. It’s a fantastic little eatery nestled on Hickson Road with plenty of outdoor seating for diners to soak up the atmosphere. The pre-theatre atmosphere, that is, as Lavana is right opposite the Sydney Theatre Company and thus popular among hungry theatre goers. Service is always warm and comes with knowledge and flair. At this gem of Dawes Point you will be made to feel most welcome.

Highlights of the excellent Spanish tapas menu include the lamb ribs marinated in wild honey, thyme and fresh chilli, as well as the seared scallops with pomegranate and the grilled baby octopus. If that sounds a little too meaty, the oven baked feta and grilled figs are as dreamy as they sound. To highlight any one dish on the menu of larger mains is tough because the whole thing radiates quality, but just for you, the lobster ravioli in special sauce is a winner. Complement any of this with one of Lavana’s fine wines – there are some from international vineyards as well as some closer to home – and you’re going to be seriously impressed. Reserve a table now and enjoy some of the best Spanish cuisine in Sydney.

Excellent range of tapas and main meals, nearly everything on the tapas menu gluten free. Lovely location by the water, service excellent, wine by the glass a very generous serve.

Lovely and friendly service from all of the staff on the day. Although you were extremely busy it was attentive and kept us informed. Delicious food and look forward to coming back again!

Food, service and location was perfect for a light enjoyable meal prior to the theatre. I will definitely return to Lavana when we go to our next play.

Great location looking out across the marina. No road noise. The service was caring, friendly and efficient. Four of us enjoyed seven tapas dishes accompanied by a very good Riesling. A delicious way to enjoy different tastes without overeating. Highly recommended for lunch or evening. Perfect for pre-theatre.

Amazing! Great food and the staff were very attentive and lovely people. We had a variety of the tapas and we loved the scallops the best. Lovely to sit by the water and a really great environment. Great for a casual, relaxed dining experience.

Welcoming service. Great food. We chose four Tapas dishes which arrived more or less together but as it was a cold evening by the time we got to the last two dishes they were cold. Otherwise an enjoyable meal. Would definitely return

The tasting plates were all very good but the service was poor with very slow and confused delivery of the dishes. Management seemed truly apologetic and I expect the problem might have been new staff and the theatre rush hour. Value was good and I expect we will return.

We enjoyed a great meal, great service and a wonderful view. We chose items from the tapas and main menu, which provided the opportunity to share a variety of foods and flavours.

Restaurant is in a great location opposite the Ros Packer Theatre and on the pier affording water views. The staff were friendly and efficient but the food is only just ok with a confused greek/spaniish/Turkish mixture of tastes. Wine was good but expensive... a $20 bottle shop shiraz was $54.

We were the only diners on a wet Tuesday night. Excellent tapas and friendly service in pleasant surroundings with a nice view of Walsh Bay.

Food was good - not great. The Patata Bravas was odd - undercooked sliced, steamed & oven baked - not the crispy morsel expected. OK for a preshow meal. Great coffee.

Food was nice, lots of options. Location is good around the dock area. Service was OK - was not very attentive considering the restaurant was not busy.

The service was very good and, while the tapas menu looked interesting overall, the final product lacked imagination. Short cuts were taken with the ingredients which detracted from the resulting flavours.

The staff were friendly and happy ... however the food was average. Reasonable value for money but uninspiring presentation.... the salad was limp and the octopus was tough and not cooked too order but looked reheated in a microwave.
