We had the street food share platter for two Was way over priced didn't really taste of anything no flavour Extremely disappointed won't be back again
We had a very pleasant evening at this restaurant. The staff was very friendly and we didn't have to wait a lot for the food. And most important, the food was delicious. Will definitely come back soon.
Great food, everything was delicious and came with decent sized portions. Food was a resonable price but drinks were really expensive. Staff were really great
Friendly, informative, great service and most importantly GREAT FOOD! Not your standard tex mex place, the food here feels authentic. We had a brief Tequila tour at the end of our meal too, well worth it.
The nachos here were authentic and delicious and were a great sharing size for the two of us. The mains were a great size, especially if you're hungry, and weren't too expensive. I would highly recommend Los Amates and will definitely be going back.
Friendly staff. Delicious food and drinks. What more can you want? Have decided we will be coming back with a group of friends in the near future.
The food was delicious and the service was friendly and helpful! We will definitely recommend Los Amates to our friends. We had a great night :)
I have been to Los Amates a few times now and have not had a bad experience! The food is amazing and the staff are consistently lovely. I'm a big fan.
Authentic food and decor, friendly staff. Real mexican which does not try to burn your palate with chilli, so many mild or non-spicy dishes are still full of flavour.
Took 30 minutes to take our order and ignored by staff. Our order then took close to another 30 minutes, which I wouldn't complain about if we weren't waiting over an hour.
bit overpriced for quality received. some drinks needed ice to cool the drinks. friendly service. great location. not sold on the place over all sorry
As an American, it's hard to find good Mexican food in Australia. I was pleased with Los Amates - probably the best I've had so far here. Good sangria and delicious enchiladas. Overall good service - the place has a nice "small casual Mexican restaurant" environment - super simple and colorful. Just a FYI, they do not split bills. I would definitely return - very pleased with the food!
Good food, not great. Atmosphere was lovely but it became far too noisy when the blender was turned on which disrupted the ambience. Staff didn't greet promptly when we first arrived in store, two people just stood there at the stall near the door and avoided eye contact.
The food and service was great. The best Mexican food in Melbourne for a long time. We all agreed that we will be back for more wonderful Mexican.
Great traditional Mex food, not that trendy Tex/Mex stuff. A great selection of Tequila for those that are so inclined. Lovely friendly service & lively atmosphere. The Chipotle & Mango margarita made my night.
Fantastic restaurant, this was the second time I've been, first was with work this time was with family. Great food great service just a beautiful place.
It's a good fun place, great staff and tasty food, there are a lot of hard surfaces so it is incredibly loud and a little difficult to chat, overall we had a good night.
The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is great. If you're looking for an authentic Mexican experience, then this is your place. There is something for everyone on the menu
Atmosphere and staff are great. Gaucamole is the best I've tasted outside of Mexico. Vegie enchiladas were not my favourite, but I'd definitely go back!
Great service, numerous options, lacking a bit in taste unfortunately. Decor was absolutely beautiful, gritty and underground, and the service were all paying homage to Frida Kahlo with the flowers in the hair. Definitely try it! Worth it
Great authentic Mexican and good service. The beer was selected from a good range of quality Mexican beers. We had five differently main courses and all were very good.
I love this place, Food is always amazingly good...every time I invite someone they get happy with the pick :) ... however, when we ask for hot sauce they bring us one smoke and soft one ... Mexico es Caliente ....the blender of the bar is annoying. I am sure you can change it for something that let us enjoy the conversation. I would love to come next time and not to center my conversation on how you could buy a new silence blender
What can it be said about a nice little restaurant close to the city and close to public transport? Good food and great service! Though the only thing was it took abit longer for the food to arrive. I would imagine that the kitchen was in full gears as it was full house. So very understandable.
food has been more flavoursome in the past. Margaritas seemed too watered down. Spicy food should be really be more adequately advertised in the menu. Ordered food for the kids, which according to the menu, appeared "safe" only to find it was actually quite spicy
Great food as always. Staff are attentive and helpful. Our friends who had never been before loved the food and ambience.
We were placed next to the entrance door on a 36 degree day so the air conditioning kept escaping every time someone opened the door and we were feeling really hot throughout our whole dinner. However we did enjoy the food thoroughly. We ordered a pork quesadilla, fish tacos and a chicken mole. Loved all the flavours!
Service isn't amazing, but they mean well. Food was mostly good - we were sat close to bar and the blender for the frozen margaritas was so loud we wouldn't hear each other talk.
Food was fresh. The fish taco and the beef check taco were really good. The fish in the cerviche was not the best. The fish was quite chewy and the flavour was quite bland.
We went for dinner on a busy sat evening and the restaurent was packed. Despite this put service was prompt and friendly. We ordered the classic Margarita which was sensational and our starters were presented very quickly. My main of chicken with MOLE sauce, rice and cooked beans was absolutely delicious and add a side of warm tortilla's and the meal was a complete success !
We have been going to Los Amates since it opened around 12 years ago and it is our favourite place to eat Mexican food and celebrate the Mexican holidays. We are from California, so we are picky. You will get authentic Mexican food at Los Amates.
Best Mexican food I've had in Australia! If you want the most Authentic Mexican food south of the border, make Los Amates your first stop.
Extremely slow service . Asked the waitress for another table as advised will let us know and never came back . Gave us the wrong drinks . Good good but waiting over an hour for the food.
Can't go wrong here. You be patient they will be and you will get the job done with amazing legit Mexican food. 10 /10 will be back
Great food, great vibe. Perfect place for a date night. There's plenty of options for vegetarians too and a wide range of great cocktails. Will definitely eat there again.
Perhaps as close as you'll get to the real Mexican deal in Melbourne. great tamales and a good selection of tequilas and mezclas. ¡Muy bueno!
The food was amazing, everything we had there was so delicious. The staff were very friendly and provided great service, i will definitely be coming back again and again :)
Food was amazing, drinks were amazing! Music was pretty loud and kept getting turned up and then turned down.... made it difficult at times to have a conversation. We will be going back for sure , food was worth it!!!
The best mexican tastes we ever had and great customer service. Food was delicious. Worth for the money spent. Will definitely come back for a bite.
Great food and friendly service! We had a large group and had to wait a little while for our main dishes, but we had plenty of drinks to keep us entertained. Will definitely be back.
Great vibe, very colourful & authentic. Yummy food; loved the lime margarita...The guacamole was to die for :) I will visit again soon & would recommend to all.
Food was delicious, and the cocktails were yummy! But sitting in the front part of the restaurant was really noisy because of the bar tender's blender. The tables are too small for three people to eat at. It was hard to get the staff's attention for ordering drinks. By 8pm large groups of diners were really loud in other parts of the restaurant but it still affected the front part. We got the meat street food share platter for three ($87) and each had two alcoholic drinks and it came to $190.
Excellent food and atmosphere; amazing flavours and a varied menu. I think this is the best Mexican food I've found in Australia! Definitely worth a visit.
Margaritas and the meal were delicious! Staff were friendly too. Would definitely go back again :) Got the tasting platter and it was a great way to sample everything. Definitely do the tacos next time!
Real authentic Mexican restaurant, staff and food!! As well as amazing drinks too. Will definitely return. Price was reasonable also. Great location. Well done well done
Always good. Vibrant feel and friendly staff and service. Only down side is its a bit noisey but that's part of the feel of the place.
Always brilliant! Los Amates serves traditional Mexican food that is consistently delicious and the service is always attentive and lovely. Tacos were a hit, especially the beef cheek!
Arrived on time for our 8:00 pm reservation, seated immediately and then ignored. 3-4 tables arrived after us, were seated, given menus and water while we were still waiting. Decided after 10 minutes that it wasn't worthwhile hanging around because if they couldn't even give us menus how long were we going to wait for our meal. Went to Madam K's and had a lovely dinner.
Very nice sangria, good atmosphere, nice fish tacos, generous and tasty nachos. Not cheap but not too expensive, good quality food. Good location in Fitzroy
Cosy atmosphere. We really enjoyed the margaritas and sangria- however the food was really greasy. We ordered the street food platter for 3, confirmed by the waiter that this would enough. Yet for $75 there was minimal food. Barely entree portions. Would not go back.
Absolutely amazing! The food was spectacular! Having lived near Mexico for years I can attest that this food was the most authentic Mexican food I have had since moving overseas
