About Masala Island Indian Restaurant - Nerang

Masala doesn’t necessarily mean ‘sophisticated flavours’. Rather, it’s a Hindustani word, familiar to any Gold Coast foodie that frequents Indian and South Asian restaurants, but in fact derived from the Persian masalih, ‘affairs’, ‘materials’, or ‘spices’, in turn from the Arabic salaha, meaning to be fit, competent, usable. These subtle inflections are fully present in the nuanced Indian cuisine on offer at Masala Island, located on Price Street in the Gold Coast suburb of Nerang, close to the river and the intersection with Nerang Connection Road. Stepping into the restaurant, Masala Island’s chic modern premises are the perfect backdrop to the creative, refined Indian cuisine on offer, with traditional favourites mixing with contemporary innovations for a peerless dining experience.
