Tasty breakfast. Good service and great coffee. Friendly staff. Always have a good time at Sassafras. Convenient to bus stop as well. Outdoor area is nice for an afternoon drink and free live music.

Fantastic food and coffee and my dog loved his ice cream. Would be better if there was a dog tie down spot with water at each table

Big servings & very tasty. I had the Salmon Eggs Benedict with a side of tomatoes & whole mushrooms. Good coffee & friendly staff. Sat in a leafy courtyard, quite warm, however fans were eventually put on.

We had booked a family lunch for Christmas Eve at 12.30. When we sat down we were told they were closing at 1.00 even though the website and signage in the store said 2pm. This was disappointing as it meant our Christmas catch up felt very rushed and we did not feel very welcome or relaxed.

Great, but restaurant got a bit warm needs more cooling, fans would help. Food and service excellent. Sat inside and decor is looking a bit tired

Sadly, two of us ordered the pancakes (one the Canadian pancakes and the other, the Ricotta pancakes) and in both instances the meal was very dry - little to no maple syrup. Although there was big chunk of butter on top of the Ricotta pancakes, as the cakes were barely lukewarm upon presentation to us, the butter didn't have a chance to melt. We only ate a small portion of our pancakes as a result. Unlikely to come back given such a basic error.

Food wasn’t nice. Vietnamese salad was soggy. Staff didn’t clear plates so we had flies circling us while trying to chat. Food and drinks were quick to come out, staff were friendly, nice setting.

Good, honest food. I ordered the Vietnamese salad and my husband, the veggie burger and sweet potato chips - Delish. Nice relaxed atmosphere and a bonus that other customers brought their lovely pet dogs.

Food was great but they were exceptionally busy (good sign of course) but very understaffed, with strain showing on waiting staff who were virtually running, but doing a good job; they struggled to clean tables were patrons left to make way for new customers. Maybe it was an unexpected lunch time and they got caught out. Keep this in mind if you are expecting a quick lunch like I was. However, no complaints about the food or value or ambience on outside deck.

Lovely vibe as usual on a relaxed Friday lunch. Asian salad with beef and nam Jim dressing never Dessapoints! My friend loved her avocado on sour bread but they went a little light on the feta.

Reservation was for inside, but no trouble shifting out to the garden area. Service was prompt and helpful. Food was attractively served and delicious. A very good experience overall.

I was there for breakfast and had the eggs benedict with bacon and the other order was the rib fillet steak sandwich. Both were cooked to perfection and were served in a timely manner. The wait staff are great and friendly. The place has a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. Does not matter what time of the day you come here, the food can be relied on to be great.

Lovely location. The menu at sassafras is constantly updated and we scored better quality wine than we ordered. Hard to complain about that! Staff were attentive and polite. I keep going back!

Quaint little cafe in the heart of Paddington. The staff were very friendly and welcomed humans and canines alike. The food looked and tasted sensational.

The burgers are awesome, worth getting the week day special, burger, sweet potato chips and beverage. According to the boyfriend, the coffee frappa is amazing. he's very picky with his coffee and doesn't give compliments easily.

Great food and value for money and very cute that they offer little free doggy treats on the counter when you bring your pooch along.

I have been going to Sassafras for many years, so I already know it is a great place, although it has recently undergone significant changes (by becoming licenced and changing to a somewhat a la carte menu), rather than a refrigerator of full of gorgeous salads, pies, etc. As it is opposite Paddington Central Shopping Centre, it is a very convenient location. Sassafras has always seemed to be a place that is convivial and somewhat funky without trying to be trendy, "edgy", and/or pandering to artsy-fartsy cutting edge wannabes. Comfortable, homey, and unpretentious without excessive stainless steel, large bottles of marinating peppers, band posters, and artificial flowers, hence (IMO) it attracts a wide range of clientele and ages, ranging from gossiping grandparents and retirees to young mothers with baby carriages to single Wi-Fi Warriors. Staff is always friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and willing to help unusual requests (like serving a brought in birthday cake), which is nice. Peter (the proprietor) regularly seems to be around, so it becomes a very personable experience for regulars who have met him; I organised a "Social group gathering" there, knowing it could not be a bad location, although in this case, I did not see the ginger tomcat or wild turkeys wandering through the back yard, completely at home... The only comments or criticism I can make is that: a) The newly installed outdoor black shade sails are too low, absorb heat, and refract it downwards (are they white on top?). They probably need a few post attached rotating fans to blow out the layers of heated air, because due to the surrounding hedges and fences, the standing air cannot move, and won't escape upwards (no heat differential with the atmosphere); b) Despite the high ceilings (probably due to it being an old wooden house), internally, it can become quite hot, especially with the kitchen in close proximity to tables. The internal walls also prevent air flow, so at some stage, roof "whirlybirds", hot air extraction ducting, roof insulation, or upgrading the A/C to more powerful units might be worth considering. All in all, definitely my favourite local "Coffee Canteen/Bistro" and hangout. I'll still be coming regularly!

I have dined at Sassafras a number of times and unfortunately today was nothing short of disappointing. Whilst, the food was ok and we were advised that there was a 25 min wait, our coffees arrived after our meals were served and we had a booking for 5 people and were squeezed onto a table for 4. Not good enough and likely to be some time before we return.

We have been to Sassafras on several occasions (breakfast & lunch) and have never been disappointed. The service is prompt and friendly with a great menu selection and the meals are great quality. Excellent coffee! Cool surroundings - we particularly like the external courtyard area. Can get busy so make a booking to avoid disappointment.

Quite hot in the outdoors seating area in summer and it was a little dirty. Good selection of food and good taste. There was a line up to order at the counter.

2/3 of the meals were beautiful. I recommend the chicken burger. The staff were a little forgetful and ordering was a little clumsy. But otherwise it is a really great spot, excellent courtyard and atmosphere. Reasonable prices too.
