Modern Japanese cuisine, especially in Melbourne, is synonymous with style as well as substance, and it’s the same story at Richmond’s Hayashi 291. With a cool glass front and an inviting layout inside, this restaurant on Bridge Road goes big on authentic sushi and sashimi. Some highlights worth pointing out include the scampi sashimi with scampi miso soup, or the kingfish carpaccio. Also a winner is the white fish tempura with thick teriyaki sauce, as well as the curious anago sushi. Whatever you decide, we can guarantee Melbourne’s Hayashi 291 will tick every box you have when it comes to casual, very reasonably priced dining. It’s just down from Citizens Park, so stop by this Richmond hotspot and get stuck into real Japanese cuisine.

The atmosphere was pleasant and the staff was polite. I have had better sushi but definately the quality was good, with generous portion of fish
