Warm & friendly staff, clean casual decor and a menu with a core of Japanese familiarity and just enough modern twists to lift it beyond the typical. We’ll be back pretty soon.

This restaurant is really neat, clean and the service was fantastic. Unfortunately, the food was less impressive. the tempura was not a very nice dish - huge chunks of vegetables and the prawns tasted off and heavily salted. With more attention to the food, I think the place will win more customers.

Staff were so friendly and welcoming. Great service overall. Food was also delicious and a good price. I don’t think I could recommend this restaurant enough

Modern Eatery is excellent in all areas of service and food. It is the warm and friendly staff that makes the experience even more enjoyable. The setting is perfect for a nice date, catch up with old friends - and better yet, it's BYO! I have introduced countless friends to this restaurant, and never have we been disappointed. The Modern Eatery is bloody brilliant.

Food is amazing and the sushi is fresh, definitely worth checking out if you haven't already been to this little gem, great for casual dining!

We had the most amazing time at the Modern Eatery a couple of weeks ago! I brought my boyfriend here for his 30th birthday dinner and we couldn't say enough good things about the experience! The food was spectacular, the service was top notch and we have been recommending the Modern Eatery to many people since! Thank you so much for a fabulous time and amazing food! Was great that it is BYO as well!

We've been here several times now, and the food is always excellent. We try to choose a different selection each time and have never been disappointed. They specialise in aburi style, where the raw fish components are seared with a blowtorch, giving them an extra lift. Our friend has also been to their Freo branch and had the same experience as us.

The desserts were delicious and the service was great. The waitress had a wonderful knowledge of the teas. my friends and I had a wonderful experience

Great meal and so fresh. Friendly service and our grandchildren said they want to come back. Maybe the meat in the hot pot could have been in smaller pieces to make it easier to use chop sticks.

The flavours are fresh, clean and interesting with nice little details like extremely good miso soup. Decor a little sparse for fine dining but a relaxed, delicious and very friendly experience.

The food was delicious and prices were reasonable for the quality. The services was excellent and the recommendations we had from the waitress were spot on.

Really liked this place in mount Lawley. Small, quiet and clean. Good food, particularly the Aburi sashimi. Will definitely check out their menu every now and then.

Super friendly staff deliver beautifully presented dishes in a stylish Mt Lawley location. The Pork Gyoza were amazing, the Salmon Sashimi Platter was bursting with flavour and the Unagi Sushi Roll was an exotic surprise.

Lovely atmosphere and really nicely presented food. A nice selection of bento boxes available for lunch. The sushi rolls were extremely fresh. Service was prompt.

It was a lovely evening, and the sushi made came out looking very pretty and delectable. The crispy salad was yummo. Sushi was fresh and I would definitely be returning for some more. :)

Sensational food and service, with a really good menu. The gyoza was our favourite! Only negative comment was the fit-out a little bland, with fairly uncomfortable seating.

Dined at Modern Eatery on a quiet wednesday night. Food was fresh and delicious and could not fault. Service from the staff was top notch!

Loved this restaurant absolute gem in the heart of mt lawley, highly recommend this restaurant to everyone who wants awesome Japanese! The crab croquettes were the best hands down!!

Very attentative staff, clean restaurant and amazing value for awesome food thats well presented. Highly recommended this place but seats are a little hard on the bottom after awhile.

Amazing food and the staff are so helpful and friendly. Definitely the best sushi in Perth. The degustation for Valentine's Day was worth every penny and I hope they do it again.

Our visit to the Modern Eatery was a little disappointing. The portions were small and expensive considering what what you would get in other sushi shops. It also did not specify on the menu how many pieces of sushi we would get. We ordered 3 craft rolls: Fry Me To the Moon was $15 but we got 6 small pieces. The Green Leaf was $12 and we got 8 mini pieces. The Love Me Tender was $12 and we got 4 larger pieces of sushi - plus the chicken was quite hard, not very tender at all. The last 2 sushis were served on one kinda small plate. We felt quite ripped off. We also ordered a vegetable tempura, the batter was not very crunchy. The positives about this experience is the friendly service, nice ambience and the complimentary salad given because it was our first visit. I would try the Aburi next time as it was a popular reccomendation.

The modern eatery is always so fresh and delicious. The seafood sashimi is my favourite and the tempura is light and crispy as it should be. Service is friendly and fast!
