Situated just moments from Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge and the historic Sydney precinct of The Rocks, Ventuno is right in the action; you can feel the buzzing energy of the city as you walk Hickson Road. Available for private functions including weddings, birthday celebrations and corporate events, the restaurant is ideal for any occasion. Reservations, no matter how big or small the dining party, are essential.

Head chef Robert Taffuri and his talented team are magicians in the kitchen, conjuring up homemade pastas, wood-fired pizzas and hearty mains using seasonal vegetables and only the purest ingredients. Be sure to indulge in a bottle of organic Sangiovese-Sauvignon from Tuscany while taking in the view of Walsh Bay from Ventuno’s al fresco dining area, then choose from an array antipasti (scallops wrapped in pancetta, for example) before diving into your main course. We can’t say enough positive words about the pizzas – take the golosa, a decadent pizza topped with tomato, fior di latte, ham, mixed porcini mushrooms, parmesan and truffle oil. Pasta lovers will find numerous delicious options, all homemade and with gluten-free varieties available. What a spot for a lazy lunch on a sunny spring afternoon! Right on the water at Walsh Bay, away from the craziness of the Quay. Very relaxed Italian vibe with friendly, knowledgeable staff. We started with the melt-in-the-mouth tuna carpaccio with mixed citrus and the Caprese salad. Instead of the usual buffalo mozzarella, they used stracciatella di bufala with the consistency of a natural yoghurt. Outstanding, and even better to mop up with the crusty pane al forno! My wife had the spaghetti pescatore - brimming with fresh seafood and, as an Italian, she gave the al dente pasta the big thumbs up. Instead of my usual meaty option, I went for the orecchiette pasta with broccoli, anchovies, and garlic, served with a red-hot chili oil on the side. If broccoli tasted this good when I was a kid I would have taken it to school for lunch! The servings were generous and as much as we wanted to, we had to resist the recommended zucchini flowers with ricotta and pumpkin. Dammit. There was a bit of room left, so we shared the rich, creamy, boozy tiramisu with some great espressos. The wine list was small, with some interesting lesser-known Italian offerings and one or two local drops. We went with the Sicilian chardonnay and it was beauty. We'll be back with a bunch of friends to try the antipasti platters as they look outstanding. Grazie, Ventuno!!

Very good Italian, very good service in a very popular restaurant. We booked about 5 weeks in advance as we knew we were staying at nearby hotel, Pier One Sydney Harbour, and could only get an early reservation at 5.45pm on obviously a very busy Friday night. By 6.15pm this restaurant was full, and mainly with tables of Italians all elegantly casually attired and obviously enjoying the quality food and wine on offer. This is a lovely space, nice lighting, dark woods and a large steel wheel left over from the historic wharf era makes a nice feature. We had as a shared entree, the arancini which on the menu shows as polpette riso, which my wife declared the best she'd ever had, they we light and cooked beautifully. We both chose pizzas as we had heard they were very good here and they were, my wife had the La Messican and I had the Diavola, both delicious and cooked perfectly. We had a lovely bottle of an Italian red wine, a pinot Nero, which was very nice. Staff service was on the ball, friendly and perfectly timed. A very popular restaurant and we can see why. Highly recommended.

My husband and I dined at Ventuno before attending a show at the Sydney Theatre Company as it is situated in very close proximity to the theatre. We received excellent, quick service and were seated in an ideal spot overlooking the tranquil waters of Walsh Bay. The food was absolutely delicious: my husband had the beef fillet and I had the pork loin with prosciutto; for dessert he had sorbet and I had creme caramel. With drinks, our meal cost approximately $100. There were only a few things that I feel could be considered by management. Whilst there were of pizza options on the menu, there were not many choices for other main courses. My husband is lactose intolerant. It would have been much easier for him if a code to indicate suitable dishes was marked on the menu; in the same way that gluten free meals were designated. We will certainly return to Ventuno when we book our next play as it was most memorable in terms of ambience and scrumptious food!

A busy restaurant even at 6.00pm but we did not feel rushed in any way. The service was great with a very prompt service of the drinks and entrée. A little slower to main course but the waiter informed us that he was aware that we were waiting for it. The entrée was delicious as was the main and desert. The only criticism I have is that the mains could have been a little hotter when they arrived at the table. The wines are all Italian and some really wonderful listings. I am already thinking we will go back when we have more time as this visit was a pre theatre dinner.

service was good.suggestions on drinks very good. food was served promptly and we all 8 of us had a great time. and on top of that your personnel considered that we were going to the theater so they made sure we were served on time to enjoy the meal and get to the theater on time. WHAT ELSE CAN WE ASK. OH maybe to have some one with an umbrella to take us across the road as it started to rain when we were going across the raid???? only joking.:)

We've attending this restaurant many times over the years. Held several family functions for 20+ people as well. In the past, exemplary food, service and value for money. Always found pricing to be typical for Sydney, but quality and service has always been spot on. Attending recently after a long absence. Food quality still terrific. Service was mediocre and quantity of children's meals was pathetic and erratic. $18 per child, one bowl of pasta had less than 30% of the others. Mentioned to manager, apologising they brought out another plate - sad part - they charged for both dishes - $36 for a kids meal. 4 adult mains, 3 kids meals, 3 Entrees, 1 salad, 1 x $65 bottle of wine, 2 large bottles of mineral water $450 ($39 of that was weekend surcharge). Normally happy to pay $100 per head in Sydney, stretch it to $150 if ordering an entrée and main plus couple of bottles of wine but our experience at Ventunos was a bit rich, and that's coming from someone who dines out 2 to 3 times a week (mainly CBD and Inner West), who also reviewed restaurants in a previous life, and is always happy to pay for decent quality and service with a smile (don't expect the wait staff to be servile, just pleasant). Always tip a minimum of 10%, but not this time. Pick up your game Ventunos, you're too good a restaurant to received a lack lustre review such as this. Regards Ed Hanna
