Classic Cantonese delights are done with special care at Adelaide’s Chef Dong, where traditional dishes meet a modern environment. Restaurateur Mr. Dong has been cooking some of the city’s best Chinese dishes for nine years now, becoming something of a local legend for his ability to create innovative new takes on old Asian dishes. Found on Payneham Road in the heart of St Peters, Chef Dong is open every day of the week for lunch and dinner.
Adelaide’s biggest Chinese-food fans can be found nowhere other than Chef Dong in St Peters. Owner and executive chef Mr. Dong is well known for his other restaurant in Norwood, Fortuna Court, and is continuing to make waves with his second restaurant, Chef Dong. A huge fan of tea, Mr. Dong curates his tea list with extra care, ensuring that only premium leaves are flown in fresh to his restaurant, and he even takes care to choose an array of fine wines that fit perfectly to the dishes on offer.
Chef Dong’s menu is of fantastic options, including yum cha a Chinese version of afternoon tea that features a number of small dishes (dim sum) to go along with premium teas on offer. Dim sum options include the tasty spicy ox tripe, steamed custard bun with egg yolk, scallop dumplings and Shanghai pork buns, just to name a few. Try mains such as the Chef Dong roasted duck, the sizzling Mongolian lamb, the seafood bean curd hot pot or the delicious salt and pepper eggplant. For dessert, finish up with an order of fried ice cream, coconut jelly or green tea ice cream. Book ahead to experience some of Adelaide’s best Chinese cuisine over at Chef Dong on St Peters’ Payneham Road.
Very welcoming. Prompt friendly service and delicious food. Excellent way to spend Christmas Eve dinner. The food was hot and very good and we had a lovely experience.
this is a fantastic local restaurant, staff are very friendly and give excellent service, food is excellent, always fresh, easy parking will definitely be going again
The staff are friendly and the food is delicious. The fried dumplings are most commendable. I'll surely visit the restaurant again when I go to Adelaide.
Very Nice food, I have a happy time there with my family, love it. I Will go back again with friend . Easy make booking online
Efficient service overall with plenty of waiting staff. Clean and spacious interior unlike most Chinese restaurants with outdated decor and dirty food stained carpet. Easy parking. Some really good yum cha, esp the rice pastry but some dishes lack flavour and freshness. Soy sauce helps. Nice hot tea. Dinner is better, esp the steam fish and the always friendly waiter who remembers what we like.
Apart from a early altercation in the restaurant with intoxicated patrons, the night was fantastic Food was excellent and service was brilliant - Staff were welcoming and we enjoyed their humour and relaxed atmosphere. If not for the altercation I would have rated our experience as a 6. We will definitely be back soon
Went for Yum Cha. Majority of the dishes tasted good however a few of the favourite dishes were a little on the bland side. Great service. Can shy away new customers as the place was quite empty for weekend Yum Cha c
Always excellent food and excellent service. One of our favourites. Whether for a business meeting or family meal - good value and great ambiance as well.
The Taiwanese three cup chicken is always a winner! A nice atmosphere with good service and a large dining space so you are not too close to other customers.
Clean. Great service, good food. The price is reasonable was not very expensive. A great place for catch up and get together. Very happy! Certainly will come again.
