We have had the pleasure of eating at Chon on a number of occasions. However last Saturday was one of the best meals we have had at Chon. Every dish was very good and we all had an excellent evening.

Amazing food, wonderful staff. Fabulous! Would eat there every night if I could afford it. The chive dumplings and caramel dumpling dessert were the standouts for me. Can’t recommend Chon highly enough.

The food at Chon is the high point of this establishment. There were several things that contributed to making the overall experience disappointing. We brought 2 bottles of wine, a rose, since restaurants rarely have good ones on their list and a red. We were charged $4.50 corkage each person for each bottle for a total of $9.00 corkage per person. Not every person drank the red but we were still charged. I would expect if you are charged $9 each that we would at least have the wine served for us, but no. Turns out the $9.00 was a glass rental fee (kidding but?). We’re used to paying corkage but frankly this was an excessive charge for no apparent service. Noise was also an issue so discussing the charge with staff was useless. We decided that the corkage charge would suffice as the tip and left it at that. It spoilt the overall experience.

The food was fantastic. The servings were plentiful and the quality and presentation was excellent. The wine list was good and the prices were not excessive. The only thing that was disappointing was the initial service. We had to ask someone to take our order as I think they had forgotten about us but once this happened the service did improve.

The food is amazing. Every course was delicious. It is a little noisy when it’s full, but the friendly fast service makes up for that. I’ve been there 4 times and would choose it as my favourite restaurant in Balmain.

Food was good but one the waitress serving our table was very rude. We gave our feedback for one of the meals that was a bit cold and she just rolled her eyes. Unacceptable behaviour.

The atmosphere is okay but the food are too salty, especially food with sauce, coz the sauce is extremely salty. Even the desserts are salty. Furthermore, $4.50 per person for BYO corkage is quite expensive. Will not go back.

Food was great. We had a group of 15 and we were able to byo and eat a la carte! Will be back. Highly recommend
